Good riddance if you ask me. That place became a cesspool by the end. It's no wonder it got canned.

We've replaced IMDb with something better. These spinoffs don't have anywhere near the censorship and uncontrollable trolling. The one thing I miss about IMDb is the volume.
And I won't be too surprised if IMDb brings back its message boards at some point. They must have experienced not only a loss in advertising since message board posters are on the site longer and pay attention to the ads. But the message boards and film and actor discussion gave IMDb industry clout which they lost.

There were some great threads on there. It was good for information on obscure actors and shows. I liked that one particular thread on the board for the actress whose only acting credit was ‘Woman Who Urinates Herself’. Someone claiming to be her nephew replied and told everybody off, it was hilarious.

I still have my IMDb account though. I still have my IMDb account as well. But I logged out in February 2017 right after they closed the message boards. With one brief exception, I have not used my IMDb account since. I don't intend to delete it, but I also have no intention of using it again. This place is way better. Thanks Admin for all your hard work!

Thanks Admin for all your hard work! I’ve posted a couple of reviews and have a list so it still gets used even though the IMDb admin seems to be doing it’s best to make the individual pages look as tacky as possible. The site was started as a database and as such is still useful so I’m not going to stop using it just because they closed the boards.

I still have my IMDb account though. So do I...though sometimes I ask myself why. (After which I answer myself, "Because I still use the individual pages as source material for games and such." I don't like having to do that, but I know of no other media app that has such a breadth and depth of field...goldarn it!) Things I dislike about the current IMDb (as opposed to our IMDB--note the difference in capitalization): 1. No way of searching for Characters in Film or TV. 2. Changing "Names" in the Search engine to "Celebs" (suppose, say, you want to look for the Second Gaffer in GWTW? Would that person qualify as a "Celeb"?). 3. Pictures in Galleries for films or TV series can no longer be copied, even as "Image Address". I was going to list "No more message boards"--but what the hey, we have this cozy little group...and despite occasional squabbles, our current setup for the most part suits me better than the original. As GB points out, at IMDB we don't have the volume that the old IMDb MBs had--but on the other hand, we have an overall calmer, more relaxed atmosphere, and I have come to a stage in my life where that counts for a lot.

3. Pictures in Galleries for films or TV series can no longer be copied, even as "Image Address". Actually, there is a simple workaround which works in Firefox. When you're on the page with the image you want, CONTROL-I brings up a Page Info page. Click on the Media tab, scroll down to the bottom, and you'll find a link to the image (probably ends in jpg -- the png files are IMDb clutter). Copy the Location line and you can paste it wherever you like. This image is of the Monkey King from the IMDb image pages for Journey to the West (2013). Other browsers probably have a similar mechanism available.

It was just stupid of them to take it down.
That is all i will say about it.
I do still have an IMDB account, but i only use it to make lists.
And i still use IMDB to look up movies, tv shows, actors, actresses' and so on.

Right now, what I've been doing is using Google/Yahoo to find images of the desired property or person, and then right-clicking on the appropriate image. But it's always good to have an alternative system.

ellynmacg fwiw ... if you don't mind a smaller than usual image, a right click - copy image address -on the small IMDb images still works ... sometimes ( ) Ex:

I looked up someone I used to know who edits serious documentaries (so definitely not a celeb) and he came up in the search so changing names to celebs is probably part IMDb being aimed at the entertainment market audience. It’s a bit silly but perhaps they want more silly people using the site and I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that IMDbPro still has names in the search options.

That's why I don't plan to delete my IMDb user ID. And I still link to the IMDb in the master list of Movie Quote threads. But I don't plan to add any new user content to the IMDb, that would be like rewarding them for bad behavior.
