I don't recall ever hearing an audience cheer in a theatre before, so hearing deafening cheers when Garfield & Maguire turned up was surprising. Surprised by how little Garfield & Maguire were in the film, I definitely wanted more of the 3 Spider Men interacting, however their interactions worked well enough with some good heart & humour between them. The film managed to give each villain a good amount of screen time, and handled their character arcs well. The action scenes were done well and the FX didn't look fake. Yeah, people clapped when Garfield & Maguire showed up. I felt like it lagged a bit in the middle but picked up when they Petered up. The death felt a bit token, like it had to happen to equal the others losing who they lost, but hell, MCU Parker was blipped & lost Stark.

Just got out of the theater - Marvel just isn’t for me anymore. I didn’t like it much. Holland’s Peter was beyond parody with that plan to “cure” the villains - what a joke. Virtue signal and kill a bunch of innocent people or let these violent villains go back and fend for themselves? Naturally he chooses the former. Tobey’s inclusion was a massive missed opportunity, he felt like a pale and hollow shade of himself in his trilogy. Garfield was great, he really nailed the character here. Other than that, there was lots of CGI that looked dodgy and, again, the story was beyond lame. It had some nice touches, like the ending with Holland’s Peter (finally) getting to be his own Spider-Man as well as the sacrifice he took on just to get to that point. The fight in the apartment building was cool, too. The rest just left me unimpressed. I agree with almost everything you've said Tobey looked lost, tired and sick in the movie he didn't look like his old self at all and the cure storyline was the dumbest plot in movie history and ruined what would've been a fantastic Avengers like movie with the previous Spider-Men. If the Green Goblin sabotaged Peter and Strange sending them back home in the basement it would've been less dumber. Yes, they were trying to show Peter Parker was full of goodness by volunteering to cure the villains, but it felt as if Peter was a dumb kid playing with forces beyond his control in other words it was a very Tony Stark like attitude that he had. My kid got mad when I said Aunt May was at fault. Peter was going along with Strange as he should have in the beginning without altering the spell. She said he should help them. Then my question was it sounds like they all were pulled out pretty close to their deaths so save them all so they return to their deaths in their own universes? I was informed I was overthinking it.

It felt like old (post college) Peter, College Peter, & High School/Kid Peter. Different stages of Peter

I believe the thinking was return them as cured and they don't need to fight Spider-Man and die. Also interesting that the villains all get pulled out shortly before their deaths, but the Spider-Men got pulled out years after the villains' deaths? But I guess that's just how the magic works.

If you think too hard, it all falls apart fast. And I'm not even trying to be critical, I liked it more than I thought I would. But at the end of the day, the movie is just a vehicle for nostalgia. Scorsese says CBMs are theme park rides. Kind of hard to argue in this particular case, because it's less about story and more about taking a tour through previous Spider-Man movies.

Ock was wondering about his machine so returning to himself around where he did in the movie. So the machine should be on overload already. Goblin said something about the flyer so he's right where Peter dove out of the way. Only chance is the flyer seemed damaged during this battle so it might not be able to kill him.

I can't believe this movie is already sitting at $600 million worldwide and I haven't even watched it.

Doc snapped out of it when his machine overloaded, so I don't think it was quite at that part. I think he was asking Spiderman about the whereabouts of his machine because it wasn't in this universe. Goblin died so suddenly it would be hard to believe it was instantly before his death that he got pulled. Also, his glider came with him so it is likely he was still on it when he got pulled, thus sending him back it wouldn't be like he goes back and the glider slams into him.

Just got back and I found it to be amazing! It raised the bar for me when it comes to shared universes or multiverses or whatever. It successfully uses the previous 7 Spider-Man films as a foundation to build upon while being respectful to each of them. There’s so much comic book candy in this film…and it still had our main character go through a hell of a journey. Easily my favorite Spider-Man movie and up there with my favorite superhero movies in general.

Honestly, can anyone say that the "cures" whipped up overnight in a school science lab were any better than the red mist spray in Black Widow? I remember people being very quick to call b.s. on the red spray, but people are acting like the Three Petes literally coming up with things like sand reverso serum and stop-being-crazy juice on the spot wasn't stupid.

It will be interesting to hear what people think after their second or third watch, and after the high has worn off.

Yeah that was probably stupid but in a movie with a wizard, three Spider-Men, dream worlds, a fat kid out running a giant lizard and Tobey's Spider-Man carelessly turning his back to Green Goblin I think we can afford to let that one go. Besides both Peters are science students with knowledge of chemicals from their own worlds.

But unlike something like this Candyman, i left the theatre happy i watched it.

It was stated...and easy to believe...that the alternate Spidermans had been thinking about, and possibly working toward, cures/depowering/devices whatever for these villains for a while now. Plus it's a pretty common superhero plot device. Batman does this sh=t all the time.

Batman does this sh=t all the time. When I was telling my brother (who hasn't seen the movie) about the convenient serums and cures they came up with, he literally said, "You mean, they pulls a shark repellent bat-spray?", referring to that awful scene in the Adam West Batman when he has a shark hanging from his leg but happens to have just the thing on hand. Perhaps they have an in-universe explanation, but it's a weak on. This excuse reminds me of the early MCU days, and I would point out that if people were going to complain about all the people killed on Man of Steel when Superman fought the Zod and Co., they should also complain about all the people killed when the Avengers we're fighting the aliens in New York. People would respond with, "But in the movie, one of them told the others to get everyone out of the buildings, so that means nobody died". This, of course, was dumb. Of course they didn't get everyone out of the buildings on the 30 seconds before saying they would do so and when the buildings started to fall. (Of course, Civil War would make it clear that there'd been a lot collateral damage surrounding the Avengers.) Just because there was a line about how they'd been thinking about this, it doesn't mean I can swallow them coming up with an anti-crazy serum for Goblin overnight.

There still have to be rules, or eventually you'll end up with "a wizard did it" excuses every time you do something that shatters the suspension of disbelief.

Well I did attempt to answer your question too by saying that both Peters are scientific geniuses in their worlds with background knowledge on their villains conditions.

I actually wasn’t thinking about the shark repellant but rather Batman’s ability to come up with solutions very quickly. Same with Stark in the MCU. Hell Endgame showed him solving time travel in like 5 minutes. Now maybe that was something he had been working on for 5 years and never put certain pieces in order, but maybe he’s just that smart. Either way like I said it’s pretty common in superhero movies to come up with a solution to the problem relatively quickly. Maybe it’s not realistic enough for some viewers, that’s fine…but it’s definitely common enough that it doesn’t bother me at all.
