The Man Who Came to Dinner 1942, Bette Davis and Richard Travis skates around, while they rest he orders "Hot Sweet potatoes", man with a box serves it in some darker paper, and they both seems to like it. Was that a thing once? What does it taste? Iv'e tasted something called Sweet Potatoes once, not sure if it was the real thing, since it was awful.
Remember the Night 1940, on Christmas Day Barbara Stanwyck opens an old stove oven, making something that looks like muffins, when Fred MacMurray enters he says something like ah! po'boys, but could be bouys, what on earth was that, since I've never found anything on the net that looks like the breakfast treat they talked about in the movie.
It's not earth shattering, but interesting for the future.

I think the Remember the Night one is popovers… They’re like muffins or rolls. Will check on the Man Who Came to Dinner one.

teleadmSweet Potatoes baked.... MMMMMmmmmmmm ! Don't even need butter ! Cooked wrapped in foil in / over an open fire .... wow ! Culinary treat ! NOTHING at all like canned sweet potatoes (sometimes called yams) in a casserole with marshmallows or brown sugar. At the time of The Man Who Came to Dinner...they, as well as baked white potatoes, were sold by street venders ... also roasted chestnuts and peanuts.

Salzmank and Penn GuinnJust little unremarkable things one just notices in movies, and coming from another country doesn't always get and somehow keeps nagging. I call this case closed, and If you got hungry I hope you have a vendor near you!
