Movie: No Time to Die. TV series: I'll go with Squid Game. Acting performance: Can't think of one off the top of my head. I still have a lot of stuff to watch; it normally takes a few years to catch up with the best stuff from any given year. Song / Album: I don't think I've heard (or at least, remember) any new music from this year. Have I become old? Sporting event / moment: Probably England beating Germany in the Euros, last 16. Book: Haven't read any new books this year yet, unless you count the updated James Bond Archives which is absolutely beautiful and an essential read for any 007 fan. Athlete: Jonathan Taylor. Videogame: Haven't played a new videogame since the early 2010s. I'm definitely old.

Right off the top of my head, I'll give best acting performance to two people from Midnight Mass - Hamish Linklater and Samantha Sloyan.
Linklater's Father Paul is the kind of nuanced character that typically is left out of the horror genre. His voice, his facial expressions, his knowing embrace of what he knows is a bastardized version of what he has always believed in, yet he plows forward as if he can somehow redeem both himself and everyone else from the horrors to come, it's masterful stuff that builds to a truly gripping climax.
And Samantha Sloyan, jesus christ. The old trope is that if you truly hate the character, then credit the actor. Well, Sloyan's dogmatic, ultimate-manipulator, religious zealot makes my blood boil even today, months after watching the show. I can't say I've seen her in much but she gives a brilliant villainous turn.

This is tough, I don't have a ton of favorites this year. Favorite show is probably a toss up between season 3 of Lost In Space and season 1 of Hawkeye. The Expanse season 6 is ongoing and in the conversation as well. Haven't caught up with the new season of The Witcher, maybe that'll be in there.
Favorite movie? I've seen some decent stuff; haven't loved anything though, so it's tough to call a favorite.
I guess favorite sports moment is the Sox beating the Yanks in the playoffs. Or maybe the Pats beating the Titans because I was at the game which makes it memorable. This is the best I can do. How the mighty have fallen.
Haven't read anything that knocked my socks off and I can't say I have a new favorite athlete. Haven't played a new video game in well over a decade.

I was tempted to say the Sixers' playoff run - now that was the pinnacle of drama and theater... and comedy. I'm not sure if 2021 was just a down year or if I just didn't get round to much as far as pop culture goes.

I really liked Wandavision, except for the very last episode. Haven’t watched any of the other MCU shows but I was going to check out Loki at some point and have heard good things about Hawkeye.

Movie: Dune (or maybe The Suicide Squad or The Green Knight... or Demon Slayer... idk). Hard to really choose since each movie has noticeable issues. Dune has an incredibly anticlimactic ending, Suicide Squad's issue is the fact that Harley Quinn doesn't really seem to be necessary at all, The Green Knight is pretty slow paced, and Demon Slayer has a random villain show up at the end to do villain shit. But they're all filled with so much stuff that is, objectively speaking, great. They all get a 3.5/4. I think I'll just go with a four way tie.
TV Series: Have pretty much spent the entire last year just watching anime. The only non-anime series I've watched was Invincible. It more or less offered the same kind type of deconstruction of superheroes that The Boys does with some gory violence. I dig the depiction of the main character's relationship with his father, Omniman. Was surprisingly well written. But I'm going to go with an anime. Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation.
Song: Happier Than Ever, I guess. Didn't really care much for Billie Eilish before. Heard a song of hers from her first album and I dug it, but, when I went to check out her other stuff, I found that it all more or less sounded the exact same. Happier Than Ever starts off pretty much the same but turns into an absolute banger halfway through. Haven't really listened to too much music released this year yet.
Album: I'm going to cheat a little since this is literally the only album I've listened to that was released this year: "Call Me if You Get Lost" by Tyler, The Creator.
Book: I don't read books...
Athlete: Don't have a favorite.
Videogame: Metroid Dread, I guess. Really the only new videogames I've played are that one and Halo: Infinite. Spent most of the year either playing older games that I kept putting off or just playing Call of Duty and Battlefield 5.

Movie: I guess "The Father", with Anthony Hopkins
TV: probably La Casa de Papel (The Money Heist), a Spanish series on Netflix. Completely over the top but very entertaining. Honourable mentions to The Squid Game, to Midnight Mass and to Lupin.
Sports: in a year with the Olympics and the Euros, surprisingly my favourite event was the US Open, especially the women's tournament.
Books: A sci-fi trilogy by John Scalzi: The Collapsing Empire, The Consuming Fire and The Last Emperox. I read all three in quick succession. They are not going to become classics of the genre, but they were very entertaining.

I don't know if Get Back counts as a movie or a TV show, but it was incredible for us Beatles fans. It's kind of amazing that it even exists. If you're not a Beatles fan, it's probably not for you but I couldn't get enough of it.

Thanks for reminding me that the event I mentioned in my OP, my so-called "favorite sporting moment of the year", happened at the Euros, not the World Cup (which didn't take place this year). Now I'm seriously looking at my other choices and questioning them.

A bunch of European sissies roll around on the ground acting like they've been shot, the whole thing is decided by 'penalty kicks' and nobody in America cares. (I stopped watching the final went it went to PKs.)

If you're not a Beatles fan, it's probably not for you but I couldn't get enough of it. I brought that up in the 'what are you watching' thread, and said the same pretty much... it's a fair critique to say it was too long, but I could've watched more. I didn't want it to end.
