Finished the series. Omg. What a letdown. What a failure the last season was. I am glad Daenerys is dead of course, happy she was stabbed by none other than Jon, but the rest? And the execution of the last season was so poor. Mexian soap opera level of sentimentality/kytch. Never ending meaningless looks. Overthetop symbolism. Lingering in poorly executed battles. Characters straying from their true nature… I am still sour over Littlefingers death. He should absolutely be at the small council in the final scene, he was THAT good of a schemer, simple as that. How did you understand the ending of Jon? Did he desert the Night Watch and now is the King of the Free folk? Or was he just leading them out? And why was it AT ALL important he was a Targaryan? He could have been a nobody and it wouldnt have made a difference except twice he flew a dragon (but didnt do anything important) I was hoping his ancestry would MEAN something. Also end of Jamie. WTF. Redemption arc going nowhere, and in such a vile way (deflowering Briane and then leaving her in such a cruel/cold way). what a TRAVESTY. Even people who enjoy the series generally agree it was terribly fumbled in the end. To the point that despite the show magnanimous status in pop culture...sequels and spinoff are immediately tarnished just because of their relation to this series. It's like a bad breakup. You barely remember the good times when in the end you feel betrayed and filled with scorn.

Just so stupid with so many loose ends. - Arya learning from the faceless man. What was that for? Walter Frey?? Come on... - Bran telling people he is no longer Bran but then once they name him a king he is like “ok I am Bran I guess” - Bran having Very useful superpower and nobody is using it?? - Varys sent out a note about Jon being a Targaryen. To whom? What happened? - Jon being a Targaryan didnt matter at all anyway. - If one dragon can do So much damage why not use it right away The battle was So messed up too. Sending people on horses first? Meeting the ebemy outside of the fortress instead of defending uour asvantage? Not using fire more? Not using Bran at all? Its like the show had a Phd in the first 3 seasons, bachelors in the next 3 and flunked elementary in the last two...

I guess for me the last two seasons wont exist. That's the way I did it. Glorious ending: Arya's training never made any sense. She broke it off and left but still got superpower that watered down the storytelling. After the S7 premiere aired, I went on Twitter to see it started with more of her nonsense at the Freys and decided I wouldn't bother watching further. Superhero junk is a no-go. Bran never made any sense either. He didn't do anything. The point of him in the show is a complete mystery. He only drops a couple of convenient infos that would have been worthy of a proper discovery, not that deus ex machina garbage. I seriously lost faith in the author with this, not just the showrunners. I think the books will be junk too. The battle of Winterfell was a mockery. The writers were taking viewers for idiots and giving them pure emotional drivel without logic. It was even worse than the Battle Of The Bastards. If Bran was the target, used as bait, then he should have been in a trap that was reachable without slaughtering half the world first. Then at the end, Jon was yelling at the enemy dragon, Arya fell down out of nowhere and the world was saved. This is when public opinion started to turn, by the way. That episode saw the first wave of serious criticism from the broad audience. The 4th episode, The Last Of The Starks, started the "Season 8 sucks" wave on Twitter, then things kept escalating.

Its like the show had a Phd in the first 3 seasons, bachelors in the next 3 and flunked elementary in the last two... It just feels like they had no idea what to do with the cliffhangers Martins book left us... There are several changes from the books and it's almost like the show wasn't sure where to go with the changes they made on top of the cliffhangers that Martins book leave on since he's not done writing them. I just think it takes terrible disinterest on the writers parts to not come up with a better solution. There are so many better ideas floating out there in fan fiction or just on this site alone. I remember watching so many youtube videos after the final season of people saying 'why didn't they just do this' and it wouldve instantly made the show better by half. I really am convinced the show runners just wanted to be done with it so didn't bother trying to connect the dots in a satisfying way. And really it's a shame that HBO let them do this. So many years of effort put in just to leave such a bad taste in everyones mouth at the end. Ruins all credibility for me. Arya killing the Freys via Faceless Man tactics made total sense and felt fitting for the character. Everything after that was just weird and wasted or unjustified. Her killing the Night King easily was about the most unsatisfying moment in the entire series for me for a multitude of reasons. Jon being a Targaryen...I knew from like season 4 or 5 that it wouldn't amount to anything. Because it didn't matter to the character. Jon grew far past vying for some throne and even if he did, why would anyone in the realm care? The show never made me believe Jon would start a war to place himself on the throne and I didn't want him to even if it tried. It was such a weird nugget of information that couldve maybe lent itself to backhanded politics but essentially went nowhere. How they botch Bran so bad I don't understand. Bran knows everything, and is a warg. He can control people and beasts with his mind. This lends itself to so much potential since the show has, you know....dragons and things like that. But what do they have him do instead? Sit under a tree until deus ex Arya saves him and eventually somehow winds up on the recently destroyed Iron Throne? Like wtf is that? Nothing about Bran should please anyone after Hodor. Im sure if you wanted there are older GoT threads on here where so many of us, myself included, vented our immediate disappointments. Those are just some of the points but that last season has plenty of issues. I didn't see you mention it but at the time also, episode 3, the screen was barely visible for a large portion of the viewing audience. So imagine you sit down to watch it at its regularly scheduled time and it starts and all you can see is a rough outline of dimly lit characters surrounded by black. That was my personal experience with episode 3. That just added to the frustration and disappointment.

Sadly the ending from Game of Thrones is the only ending we will get.
Because George R.R Martin is never going to finish the books, and its time for people to accept that.

Oh then I recommend checking out Abercrombie in the meantime. I dived into his First Law world last year and it has been a tremendous delight. If you do, i recommend reading them in release order as theyre mostly chronological even if there aren't many characters or plotlines carried over. Also theyre excellent in audio form, if that's more your thing.

So the big question is, what do I watch next? After this, everything else will pale in comparison….
(My final verdict is: Loved the show up to season 6. Would give 10/10 for season 1 + 2).
No what…
Saw Breaking Bad, Saw GoT, saw Sopranos, facing an endless void it seems :-D

Might be worth a check for you.

It did go somewhere: it split Daenerys' own camp which is what pushed her to resort to her own ways, disregarding the advice of others. As to Jon's disinterest, it was the key to the outcome because he could remain within her circle. Surely it was all done too sloppily, too fast and at least one good season of additional drama could have been produced but the outline made sense.

They had Daenerys and Arya for the dumb superhero stuff. Jon was the humble one not wanting anything and doing what's right so that's about all he does in addition to fighting. In late seasons, the show is sectioned into easy archetypes and limited to action and emotion. Tyrion is the reflective one so he has to be brought on top of a hill to watch Daenerys slaughter his people and make a sick face. That way the idiots cheering at the bar can maybe understand that something is wrong with the whole idea. The writers have been observing the reception of the show all along and came to the conclusion that the qualities that made the early seasons went way over the head of its mass audience. They adapted and did away with all that was smart or questioning. But the overarching plot designed for them at the start was smart and questioning: it was about the dangers of trusting heroes and that was not something that could be brought successfully to a mass audience. It was going to fail the moment GoT became popular. In a way, I have the feeling they knew this and couldn't be bothered. They just cashed in on the idiots.
