Usually good for a few goals, this fixture appeals for a number of reasons. Can Newcastle win only their second game of the season? What will the crowd do if Newcastle go in 0-3 down at half time, go hoarse with booing or sing the national anthem of - no, don't go there. Will Harry Maguire make a plain old ass or full-on Xmas Donkey of himself again? So Newcastle have got a few quid in the bank from not altogether squeaky clean sources but that's no reason to hope they lose here tonight, is it? I mean, apart from our own good old Bob, who else wants to see Manchester United win a game? This goes back decades for me, it should have mellowed over the years but I'm afraid it hasn't and I loathe them. But there's plenty of folk who despise Chelsea so let's get those hate vibes out and have it. All's fair in Hate and Football. And 'tis Christmas, you know. The book : Newcastle 5/1 Manchester 1/2 Draw7/2 Ah, come on then, who's got a top 3 of Most Hated Clubs? 1, Man Utd 2, Man City 3, West Bromwich Albion Don't be shy, give it a try

Beautiful, just beautiful from Saint-Maximin minutes into the game. Verane's error allows the Frenchman in. He dispenses with Maguire, he dispenses with Telle and goes on to thwack it past De Gea for one-nothing.

Greenwood sends one in to Ronaldo but Greenwood's touch is heavy and Ronaldo, having escaped the offside trap, can only watch the ball bounce out of his reach and trot out of play.

United currently 7/5 over 7/4 for the match. With 20 minutes gone they'll have to get moving to justify the odds. Not much to report from them yet.

Ronaldo allows his frustration out by making a series of angry gestures to his teammates on '25. He's clearly not happy with what's going on here.

That Ragneck fella looks blank on the touchline. At least Ronaldo looks angry.

Oh that was fantastic entertainment from Ronaldo. Greenwood sends an acute ball from one side of the six yard box to where Ronaldo is at the far post. He's at an impossible angle to the goal line but tries to fire one spectacularly with his left boot. It bounces off his right arm and goes out for a Newcastle goal-kick, much to the merriment of the home crowd.
Time to lay off Ronaldo now. A poked bear and all that...

GOAL NO GOAL
Saint-Maximin dances through the entire Man Utd team to feed Callum Wilson who slots home from short range. Offside. Offside Wilson on '38.

HALF TIME Newcastle 1 Man Utd 0
A shame for Callum Wilson who has picked up an injury at the end of the first period. He spent the last two minutes trying to continue before finally giving up. It looks like his left calf. Other than that, I'd say Newcastle have quite enjoyed themselves.

Second half changes mean Fred and Greenwood are passed over for Cavani and Sancho.
Saint-Maximin! Off the line by De Gea two minutes in.

Rashford on '50 in space outside the area unleashes a dipping drive which is goalbound. Debruvka palms it over - needed to.

The visitors looking more up for it now, pressing, probing but with no successful end product.

The two subs combine after Sancho is fed by Bruno and feeds a squared ball into the area for Cavani. He can only scuff his shot wide from 10 yards.

First card of the game goes to Ronaldo who goes in for a 50/50 ball with Fraser, swinging wildly and missing the ball altogether.

Rashford has a chance past the hour, lining up a shot - sending it almost out of the stadium. Moments later Maximin shows how it should be done by drilling a low hard drive which forces De Gea into a grounded save.

Bruno and Maguire go in the book, the former for dissent, the other for a lunging tackle on Maximin.

That was decent movement from the right flank there with Cavani firing once, denied by Debruvka, and firing again to finish the job. 20 minutes left on the clock here, 1-1.

Almiron nearly wins it for Newcastle, his shot burning the turf and De Gea somehow getting down for it and producing a marvelous save as added time looms.
