You're trying to eat a salad with a cocktail fork.
I know, I can just wash one fork. Makes me eat slower, though.

I'd never used a dishwasher in my life until the pandemic. Now, in my mid-40's, I understand how good they are, they can really get those dishes clean.
My use is still limited as I'm basically tied to my work station when I'm present. All the disposable coffee cups where I work are now gone (for environmental reasons too), and replaced by some white ceramic elite for guests, or mostly basic china cups. It's the best place I've ever worked as I get my highest wage yet, fair breaks (unpaid), and free machine coffee which is amazing.
(hope you're doing okay)

I'm not going to try and pretend to understand, every family and immediate community is different. I feel I can only send some positive thoughts your way. Take care.

NJtoTX , sorry about your sister. I totally broke from my family in 1997, it became too toxic for me. I wish I had done it much earlier.

NJtoTX, I just saw this thread, and I add my condolences to you, and your family.
As for the dishwasher, I wish that I had one for the water saving advantage, and for having a place to store the rinsed dishes until it's time to run it. (Don't wait until you're eating salad with kebab skewers.)
Water is expensive, here, and the [seemingly forever] drought, brings continued warnings about conservation. I have the world's best landlord, in terms of rent, property upkeep, and responding to any problems. However, I can't seem to convince him that a dishwasher would bring water savings ... run it occasionally, on "short wash," or "water save."
I don't mind washing dishes, but I know the washer would be far more practical.
