Some surprising contract changes, according to the credits. Apparently Matt Ashford and Marci Miller are back on contract while Lamon Archey and Sal Stowers are now off contract? Surprising on a lot of fronts. It felt like bumping Matt to recurring behooved the idea that maybe Jack and Jennifer will come and go with Missy back in the role... and meanwhile Elani have felt so front and central that it would surprise me they'd bump them down.

I heard that Lamon wants to keep his options open since he already appears on a CW show regularly. Sal may want to be testing the waters as well as pilot season starts very soon. I’m happy to see Matt Ashford back on contract. I hope this means that Missy will be sticking around for sometime.

That's interesting. I wonder if J+J Are getting a bigger story then?
That sucks about Lamon. I really like Eli. I hope this doesn't mean he is going to just be a random pop up now.

Honestly, the way things have gone with contract status, I feel like it doesn't mean as much as it used to. They seem to go on and off contract so regularly now; I think at this point the major reason the show puts at least some of these actors on contract is when they plan on utilizing them for any set amount of time where the show wants to be assured of their availability. And if they're not going to be used as heavily, many of them go back to recurring, which probably gives everyone more flexibility; in that the actors are freer to pursue other projects, and the show may not be as obligated to fit actors into a set amount of screen time.

You're right. it's not quite the same anymore. I think it benefits both sides to have this flexibility and probably works really well for the actors and the writers/producers.
The only issue I have is when characters come and go for short times, it's hard to be invested, case in point, the Lumi NYE reunion today.

Well and now Sal Stowers (but not Lamon) is back on contract, so who knows what the hell is going on over there anymore...

I’d rather have Lamon on contract then Sal. She’s been better lately but I like him a lot more. Lani does best with other characters but brings down her coupling with Eli.

And if Lamon (and only Lamon) is off contract than I would assume this was just his own decision to increase his availability for other projects. Who knows, it may turn out like what's going on with Victoria (or how it worked with John Aniston for years when he appeared regularly) where it seemingly makes no difference that they're not on contract.

As long as we see Eli, I am fine with whatever status Lamon chooses. I really like Eli. I feel like he has seamlessly blended into the show. I love his relationship with Julie. I think he's super adorable and adds some youth. Now he just needs some friends. I wish he would be friends with Shawn, they are cousins/related after all.
Is there any notice of JKJ leaving the show? I haven't been able to find any articles on it.

Apparently, Soap Opera Digest had it in their Coming and Goings the week of Christmas.

Apparently, Soap Opera Digest had it in their Coming and Goings the week of Christmas. They did, but he's actually still listed in the credits as on contract so he presumably still has more to come even if it's in a bit? SOD also listed Bryan Dattilo as exiting this week (he's in the spoilers for next week) and Matt Ashford exiting this week (who knows what's going on, but he did newly get back on contract) so they may just base things on episodes they see rather than actual information from the show.

Yeah I feel like when actors really leave, there is a bigger deal with it - like when Greg Vaughan announced he was leaving there were a lot of articles about it.
I feel like JKJ leaving permanently would have warranted an article not just a little blurb...same with Bryan and Matt. So maybe it is just to do with the character and not the actor status.
I don't know.

I hope all three return in some capacity. I just think it’s weird to have Jack leave with Jennifer only to have him return by himself. Unless they make a new deal with Missy Reeves? I’d be fine with Cady coming back to the show as Jennifer.
I’m sure Bryan isn’t off the show for long even if he’s only back for an episode or two next week. The truth is going to come out regarding his kidnapping Sami. Plus, Ali will return later this year to the show for another visit or semi-permanent stay.

I don't know. At this point are the comings and going even as big a deal? It's sort of like the contract statuses; so-and-so pops up for a couple of months and then leaves, and then they might be back again in six months. They'd do that for ages with Martha and Brandon (I've honestly lost track of where they're at, they were coming and going so often for the longest time). Like, back when they would go years between someone like Matt coming back to the show, or even JKJ, that was a huge deal for the show, but now it's become a bit more of a revolving door.

I don't think it's much of a bog deal so long as what we are seeing on screen is not impacted. I mean the cast is really bloated right now, some stories are taking a really long time to flesh out and I am not sure if that is because actors are only available for short periods or because the show is lazy at writing.
my only issue is that when something exciting happens, like a Lumi reunion, we get one episode to enjoy it and then they are gone and we have to wait for a resolution. Do you really think Kate is going to throw Lucas under the bus at EJ's trial next week? I would be surprised if she did. She knows the truth about Philip and didn't narc on him so I assume she won't be telling anyone about Lucas either. So it might not be a while before this whole kidnapping thing is resolved.
