As has been noted, American actress, model and activist Marsha Hunt has left us at the age of 104, on September 7th. (natural causes) She had a long movie and television career that stretched from 1935 to 2008, hampered by being blacklisted by Hollywood film studio executives in the 1950's during McCarthyism. She appeared in many films, including Born to the West 1937 with John Wayne, Pride and Prejudice 1940 with Greer Garson and Laurence Olivier, Kid Glove Killer 1942 with Van Heflin, Cry 'Havoc' 1943 with Margaret Sullavan and Joan Blondell, The Human Comedy 1943 with Mickey Rooney, Raw Deal 1948 with Claire Trevor, The Happy Time 1952 with Charles Boyer and Dalton Trumbo's Johnny Got His Gun 1971. In the midst of the blacklist era, she became active in the humanitarian cause of world hunger and in her later years aided homeless shelters, supported same-sex marriage, raised awareness of climate change, and promoted peace in Third World countries. She is remembered by Hollywood Reporter R.I.P. Marsha Hunt

Oh, what a sad loss this is. She was a talented actress and an amazing person, who acted until 2008 and remained active in humanitarian efforts until at least 2015 when the documentary, Marsha Hunt's Sweet Adversity, was made when she was 98. I highly recommend viewing that wonderful film about this amazing woman. It's available free on Tubi TV.
RIP Marsha Hunt (1917-2022)
You were a gift to us all.

As has been noted, French-Swiss film director, screenwriter, and film critic Jean-Luc Godard has left us at the age of 91, on September 13th. (assisted suicide) He rose to prominence as a pioneer of the 1960's French New Wave film movement, and was arguably the most influential French filmmaker of the post-war era. According to AllMovie, his work "revolutionized the motion picture form" through its experimentation with narrative, continuity, sound, and camerawork. During his early career as a film critic for the influential magazine "Cahiers du Cinéma", he criticized mainstream French cinema's "Tradition of Quality", which emphasized established convention over innovation and experimentation. In response, he and like-minded critics began to make their own films, challenging the conventions of traditional Hollywood in addition to French cinema. He first received global acclaim for his 1960 feature Breathless, helping to establish the New Wave movement. His work makes use of frequent homages and references to film history, and often expressed his political views; he was an avid reader of existential and Marxist philosophy. After the New Wave, his politics were less radical and his later films are about representation and human conflict from a humanist, and a Marxist perspective. Godard was married twice, to actresses Anna Karina and Anne Wiazemsky, both of whom starred in several of his films. His collaborations with Karina—which included such critically acclaimed films as Vivre sa vie 1962, Bande à part 1964, and Pierrot le Fou 1965—were called "arguably the most influential body of work in the history of cinema" by Filmmaker magazine. He directed over 130 movies, including shorts and documentaries between 1955 and 2018 He is remembered by Hollywood Reporter R.I.P. Jean-Luc Godard
