No, not the "disagreement" type of discord, but are any of you into cryptocurrencies, DeFi, or NFTs? All of you? Some of you? None of you?!?
Have you been curious but not know where to begin? Are you a whale that whiles away the hours researching new projects and sitting in discords for a chance to gain a coveted whitelist spot? Do you think this is all hooey and represents a bubble that will inevitably pop? Are you sitting on a Cryptopunk or Bored Ape worth well into 6 figures?
Let's have a thread where we can share alpha, huge gains, crushing losses and everything in between.
Me, I'm a big believer in Solana this year, which isn't exactly a huge revelation or anything, but their time is fast approaching. They finally have Magic Eden, a one-stop marketplace that gives users a place to go without having to venture into the dark recesses of the internet like before. While Opensea has a 99% market share for ETH NFTs, Magic Eden has about 77% for Solana and I imagine it will only increase as developers launch their projects on this chain. Plus, the Phantom wallets are much more secure than its predecessors, and it's very easy to use; much easier than MetaMask if you ask me. Want more? The gas fees on Solana are mere pennies, compared to the ridiculously high fees on Ethereum.
The biggest drawback to Solana is that most of the projects still have anonymous teams backing them and that's something I'm very leery about. I did ape into Catalina Whale Mixers, not because I give a shit about the project (and the art itself kinda sucks), but the team behind it is doxxed and they have a strong pedigree.

Bitcoin getting absolutely crushed the last month... Also, no idea what this has to do with Discord Sorry, missed this when I was laid up. Yeah, all the coins took a beating in January, and still kinda are....which is great!! Time to reload!! Bear markets represent opportunity. Discord is where all of the projects set up shop and it's where you get all of the necessary information you need with respect to drops, mint dates, pricing, whitelist info, and it's where you interact with fellow project-members. Some are awful, and some are great, it really depends on the project.

I put money into Genesis or Genius or something. Going to have to check how they're doing and if my bank withdrawals match their deposit numbers.

That's a daily grind and it sucks, even though you can make money doing it.

So you bought Gemini dollars (GUSD)? Nice, I haven't gone into that one but I know a lot of people who have. Those tend to be more stable than some of the crazy alt-coins.

Stock is the riskiest I can get, and I don't invest much in it.

Stock is the riskiest I can get, and I don't invest much in it. Yeah man, it's definitely risky and the markets swing rather wildly at this point (being pre-regulatory and all). Not for everyone.

I mean I am not rich. I can be more risky if I have a billion. I just like to preserve my hard earn dollars for the monthly bills, and only invest a just little bit of the extra here and there.

I have been working in the space so I've been investing in client projects (to the extent I can, ethically) but I'm in the same boat.

Only have money in Bitcoin and Etherium. Got on the Doge hype train and lost quite a bit, should have hopped off when I was happily ahead. I don't do any day trading with stocks either, just throw money at it and hope for the best.

With that, it's really gambling more than anything; you buy some and hope Elon tweets about it, then you immediately pull your gains off the table. ETH I generally like to load up on when times are tough, for NFT purchases, and just because Ethereum is the foundation upon which the metaverse will be built. It will ebb and flow but 5 years from now, anyone who got into it now and persevered through the ups and downs will be very happy. Same with Solana and Avalanche, and any other layer 1s that come out.

That sucks, sorry to hear that. Yeah, there's a lot of that going around, but miraculously, ETH has maintained price resistance and the NFT market is surprisingly very healthy right now. Plus, these bear markets are great for weeding out the riff raff and dipshit projects. Still, sucks that it happened to you. Of course, the SBF stuff doesn't help but the reality is that he was just an idiot and a fraudster, the problem from FTX isn't something that's endemic to the crypto markets and I have a plethora of clients who are doing incredible, ambitious things in the space. I can't wait for the dust settle and for real-world use cases to start emerging in earnest for the technology. Whether they're viable investments is another story...
