That said, if you happen to be a person that occasionally enjoys a film SO bad, it's GOOD, and have somehow missed (avoided?) this GEM, you NEED to make a point to see it !! I often wonder if THIS might have been the film that "inspired" some modern day filmmakers to try and make money by producing movies that were PURPOSELY bad (the Sharknado series of films being a PRIME example), after seeing this one that OBVIOUSLY was NOT purposely trying to be bad.... SAVE FERRISI recently watch the rather amusing Fatal Instinct (1993) with Armand Assante and Sean Young, and I guess it was one of those typical parody/slapstick comedies of that era, which seemed to be written with Leslie Nielsen in mind, but I guess he was occupied or not interested, still Assante was very funny in his role, but yeah, the erotic thriller genre, actually did a much better (and often, way funnier) parody of itself, specially when a lot of the more over-the-top and "dramatic" early and into the mid 90s films lined up, to try and top or go beyond (in shock and sex) Basic Instinct (1992), but it would end up with most of the followers, just looking cheap, vulgar and ridiculous. Showgirls (1995), Body of Evidence (1993) and Color of Night (1994), I think fits well into that, where all were made with a serious intention, yet ended up as ridiculous and campy movies, and I guess my favorite is the Bruce Willis movie, due to it having such a laughable display of sterotypical clichees all over the place, but where the main lead (Willis), wanders around the entire plot, with an almost dead serious look to him, and the rest of the cast, is like straight out of a Police Academy or Naked Gun film.

NOT purposely trying to be bad.... SAVE FERRIS Now that could turn out to be a rather interesting (and maybe as well, rewarding) movie thread, about bringing up all these hilarious, so bad its good or funny, cult b-movies, that once might have started up as a serious piece of "art", and yet somehow, it would all turn into one huge craptastic accident, which now in many cases, seems to have its fair share of loyal and loving fans.

This poster makes it look like a fun movie ... even Margaret Rutherford could not make this turkey palatable. IMDb says some of the "best bits" of comedy were improvised .... a script might would have been a better idea.

Bela Lugosi and Lionel Atwill in large letters creates an expectation that those two actors plays the leading roles in this spooky house/mansion movie. Actually Atwill is killed off rather early and Lugosi plays a butler of the mansion household, and they were billed above the movie title in the actual movie. It's not a bad little B-horror movie, but might disappoint those who expect Lugosi and Atwill in big and important parts. The Night Monster is so hideous that even the frogs stops quacking!!!!

Crazed look in Orson's eyes ... yes. This lady in this state of disarray ? nope ! "Biggest Picture in Ten Years" ... nah !
The film itself: Alexander Dumas story with Welles' scenes directed by Welles, sumptuous costumes, cast of thousands of crazed peasants and courtiers. An ending that brought un-intended eye roll and titter. Historical accuracy ? ... relax Jake, it's Hollywood !

A very brief scene in this 1938 Laughton / Lancaster / Newton film about a beach bum and a spinster missionary.

Poster tagline is off base as he is never "tempted" ! and if you are really looking forward to that cliff wrestling match scene ... forget it ! Movie is better than the poster ... moves right along and you don't need to take notes to follow the plot.

This one, for trying to give the impression that this was a film worth paying to see..... Showgirls (1995)That said, if you happen to be a person that occasionally enjoys a film SO bad, it's GOOD, and have somehow missed (avoided?) this GEM, you NEED to make a point to see it !! SAVE FERRIS The poster always appear disturbing to me that gives me an impression of a woman lost one of her legs yet trying to be sexy.

Agreed......and no doubt an arresting image.....but I could never figure out if that silhouette of Elizabeth Berkley's body was purposely meant to be mimicking the letter "s", or not. I'm guessing it was, given the odd way both of the two s's are shaped and accentuated in the title. However, if that was the intent, then doesn't the title on this poster actually read, "ShowSgirlS" ?? SAVE FERRIS

From all the action, adventure and romance (spelled s-e-x) depicted in this artwork (featuring Bogie looking like he's channeling both Victor Mature and John Wayne), you'd never suspect the off-center, dryly tongue-in-cheek tale of a ragtag group out to hustle some fast bucks that Beat the Devil actually presents. It may be an acquired taste for some; it was for me, taking a good three viewings to find my way into its uniquely eccentric sense of humor that tiptoes along a fine line between subtle satire and out-and-out farce. And that was without having seen the poster first.

No idea from this poster what one might expect to see BUT whatever it was ... it wasn't there. Eyes and eyeglasses do not figure in the story (such as it was) at all.

Nice looking poster for a surprisingly good movie found quite by accident BUT the image really is not accurate as far as representing the story ! It's more about this... and a "just friends" relationship

Bette shows up towards the END of the film and is just one of four story arcs. Shelley in that dress ? The pose ? Nope.
