I got lucky and guessed it in 4.
Has anyone tried the Hard Mode yet? If I understood correctly, at each step you MUST re-use the letters that you got right on the step before. The way I've been doing, I start with the same two words that have 3 different vowels and 7 different common consonants among them. That usually gives me at least three letters - but in Hard Mode it wouldn't be allowed.

Didn't know there was a hard mode. Based on those rules it wouldn't have changed my approach so far, so maybe I ought to try it.

Are letters ever in the same word twice?? I wondered the same thing. So far that hasn't happened, but that would be relevant info.

In Three Got three letters in stage 2 with 2 in the correct position followed by several "'taint no such woid" tries and then the lightbulb lit.

Will hold off on my word incase anyone looks at this today before doing it... I changed one letter but reckon I'd have got it sooner if I'd left it as it was. So I'd been starting off with "Early" which I thought was good having a couple of vowels and reasonable constanents. But then I thought maybe the "Y" wasn't really that useful for an opener so changed to "Earls". Yesterday this was a bad move as the Y would have been in the right spot! Anyway, I came across this:- www.lexico.com/explore/which-letters-are-used-mostAnd looking at the percentages, "S" is indeed better than the "Y". Don't click unless done today:- Didn't help yesterday but I thought - given the percentages - I'd stick with "Earls" for today. Bad choice - No letters at all! Anyway weirdly (like Ollie's post above) guessed it straight away after that! Guess it's logical that anyone with Es and As in their first word will go for an O I word second guess and have a good chance of getting it...

I've been using Wheel of Fortune as a guide by favoring the letters RSTLNE in my first word.

I'm hooked on it. One word a day is too little, though. A friend turned me on to Absurdle just this morning I'm having a lot of fun with it. qntm.org/files/wordle/index.html

No, but I will. Didn't even know it was an option. Thanks.
