I have one question, and that is would you agree that 1985 for example, is a better year for music than the music released in 2021?
Give you some time to think about it:

The 1980's were the genre's commercial peak and the period from 1982-1988 were particularly fruitful and produced some all time classics from bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden and Dio. The twenty-first century has also been a fruitful period for traditional heavy metal. I've purchased more than two-hundred albums, there have been ten years in this century from which I bought a double-digit number of albums.

The difference now is the explosion of different sub genres and all that. I mean yeah they existed in the 80’s but it wasn’t like you could walk into any record store and purchase the latest slayer album because it was all underground.

Make it 5. To be fair, 2021 wasn't really a good year for anything but the pharmacies, but there's still plenty of good music being produced.
In a larger and more general context, the demand for music isn't as high as it used to be and the bar has been lowered to a sickening degree. There was a "Tik Tok star" on Jimmy Fallon the other night. She was plugging her one song and was excited to announce the release of a new song coming out next month. I reckon it wont be too much longer before the word "album" will only apply to photos and the masses will be on the edge of their seats in anticipation for the next chord.

Probably. I love a lot of albums from 1985 but I could probably list more than 50 albums from 2021 I love/really like.

Great music has and will continue to be released every year, Just gotta make the effort to find it rather than focusing on certain eras or years. Personal laziness does not equal a statement on the vibrancy of the musical landscape. Human nature to get lazy and stick to known pleasures rather than putting in the time and finding the great new artists. Just remember, if you'd been that lazy as a kid then you'd be either just listening to top 40 or your parent's music.

I'd say there were about 7 or 8 what I would consider great albums last year. Maybe twice that amount back in 1985...but many of those I didn't discover until years later. Maybe 2021 will prove the same.
