She has stated that GILLIGAN'S ISLAND destroyed her career.
Well, I've seen her in other shows, such as BONANZA and IRONSIDE, and IMO, she wasn't that great as an actress. I don't even think she was all that good in her debut, the movie GOD'S LITTLE ACRE, which showcased her sex appeal more than any acting abilities.
Of course, the character of Ginger Grant on GI was just meant to be a spoof of Marilyn Monroe. But a really top-rate actress could have made her funny and believable. And Ms. Louise was not top-rate.

Had it not been for GI, we would not know who she was all these years later.

She did have a few starring parts prior to GI--she did a movie about Sappho the historical figure THE WARRIOR EMPRESS I think it was called. But not much. After GI, she did a few things--someone was telling me she had a good performance in the tv sequel to Rosemary's Baby and in Nightmare in Badham County she is totally unrecognizable. She is a cruel prison official--it is a cartoonish role but the opposite of Ginger. In one scene she is sitting in a chair wearing underwear only and watching women's wrestling and she throws around racial epitaphs like you wouldn't believe.
Robert Reed also has a totally anti-Brady Bunch kind of part too.

I actually saw her in quite a number of things after “GI”. I kind of respected her for not trying to ride the coattails of that one particular show.
