I haven’t seen a single one, but I have been meaning to watch them all for a while now. I appreciate the rankings here!
I’ll revisit them when I watch all 5 soon.

The original is a fantastic movie, the sequels just kind of blend together for me. I might see the new one.

1 2 - I used to have this first until a 20yr re-watch last year; while more mature scares meet the more mature cast, I thought the ending twist spiraled. 4 5 3

My first two choices are easy—the first two in the series—but after that this ranking gets hard for me. I had fun at 5, I also found it just so slick and impersonal. In other words: “subject to change.” 1. Scream ’96 2. Scream 23. Scream 3 (it’s not good, I agree. But I kinda find it goofy fun.) 4. Scream ’22 5. Scream 4 (I feel bad about putting this one in the bottom spot… The idea behind it is super, a genuine surprise. But the Weinsteins had to go and replace Williamson with Kruger. And the soft focus is, as Brad put it, hideous.)

I think of all the films, it's probably the wittiest with the meta movie banter. But like you, the finale derails it for me.

It was basically a deconstruction of soft reboots before they were even a thing, and the concept of remake characters killing their original counterparts to replace them is awesome. But the Weinstein's really toned down all the allusions to the remake angle until the end. Krueger, who doesn't seem to know much about horror in general (there's like one actual horror movie reference in Scream 3, and it's a lady somehow mixing up Psycho and Vertigo) really has no business talking about modern horror cliches. "The only way to survive a horror movie in 2011 is you have to be gay"? The fuck are they talking about?

I 've seen only the first one. But I'd say 3/5. Even though i haven't seen any other ones i'd rate them much lower.

1. Scream - 9/10 - Second best slasher film of all time behind Halloween, iconic, memorable characters, clever writing, great filmmaking.
2. Scream 2 - 8/10 - The script contrivances are worthy of a downgrade but the film is saved by some extremely well done suspense scenes. Arguably this movie has better slasher set pieces than the original (the movie theater, Omega Beta Zeta, Randy's death scene, the police car scene etc).
3. Scream 5 - 8/10 - I think the movie trips a bit at the end but is overall worthy sequel in this series, the young cast is really impressive, the kills lack suspense but its apparent they were more focused on providing the gore, which it absolutely has.
4. Scream 4 - 5/10 - Not a particularly great sequel, wasn't exactly successful in revamping the series but it did offer a few things, Emma Roberts delivered a very memorable physical performance at the end, there is one particularly brutal kill scene that was well done, and I liked the world building of the teens holding a Stab marathon, the main drawback is everything about this movie looks plastic, everything from the characters to the sets.
5. Scream 3 - 4/10 - This movie pretty much wrecked everything and killed the slasher boom that the first film started, I watched it again over the weekend in preparation for the new movie and really didn't discover anything about it that had grown on me.

I love everything about the ending of Scream (2022) and I think the movie has the most intense kills of the franchise. The kill scenes have more of a visceral feel in this movie imo. This movie also has the scariest scene in the entire franchise, which for me is the scene in which the sheriff is killed in front of her suburban house in broad daylight.

1. Scream - 7.5/10 2. Scream 2 - 6/10 3. Scream 3 - 6/10 4. Scream 4 - 4/10
I probably liked these a little more than those scores would suggest, but (with 3 and 4 especially) the endings all have some element I don't like. They're overall really fun movies; the whodunit misdirection is top-notch. I never predicted any of the killers.
The new one is something I might look into seeing this weekend. I'll definitely see it eventually.
