Greatest Oriole ever? And if you say Ripken you are dead to me. Gotta be Jim Palmer, right? Fun fact, he never gave up a grand slam, or back-to-back homers.

He didn't play as many seasons there as the others, but he clearly was the star of their AL East dynasty of the late 60s-early 70s. It's funny. Even though I was only 7-8 years old and there weren't many games televised, I can easily recite the Orioles starting lineup, bench stalwarts and their rotation from that era. But I doubt I could do the same for any current team, except the Mariners, despite the fact I watch multiple games nearly everyday.

One of the things that made winter more bearable was the old Baseball Encyclopedia. Me and my brother (and my father occasionally) would root through the book and ask lineups. "Name the 1955 Dodgers" and you got three points for starters, one for bullpen and bench. Probably sounds like a snoozefest but we had no internet or PS4, just 30 feet of snow outside.
1969 Orioles, off the top of my head
1b - John Wesley Powell 2b - Dave Johnson 3b - Brooks Robinson SS - Mark Belanger LF - Don Buford CF - Paul Blair RF - Frank Robinson C - Andy Etchebarren SP - Jim Palmer SP - Dave McNally SP - Mike Cuellar SP - Tom Phoebus CL - Eddie Watt (he didn't play 2nd)
missing 5th starter, Wally Bunker?. but this was an easy one

Why did ornithologists screw up the species identification from 1973 to 1995?

I remember Merv Rettenmund, Chico Salmon (loved his 1970 Baseball card) and Terry Crowley. Not sure if Curt Blefary was there too or came later. One thing, I thought Ellie Hendricks was the starting catcher and Etchebarren was backup? Maybe that also occurred later.

When did 4 man rotations become 5 man rotations? An you gotta have them in batting order, not just by position, right?

I felt kind of bad for Belle back in the day. He was easily provoked, a recovering alcoholic, and people in the stands used to try to set him off. I'm trying to think of what game I was at when I saw a couple guys pouring beer onto the field from the stands.

Ellie did catch more games. I do remember Chico Salmon, but as an Indian. I forgot Marv Rettenmund

When did 4 man rotations become 5 man rotations? An you gotta have them in batting order, not just by position, right? Orioles kind of used a 4.5 man rotation in 1969. And all we had was old old huge Baseball Encyclopedia. It had teams broke down by games played, no lineups. Damn, if we had Baseball Reference, we would have been asking "the lineup of the 1950 Buffalo Bisons".

I just figured you were old enough to remember them from watching them! Just kidding.
I used to be able to tell you every single from every 1993 team, batting order included. Those days are long gone.
Can still remember the Braves and Blue Jays and Expos from those days. Maybe the White Sox and Cubs?
I'm not even sure if Kevin Mitchell was on Cincinnati or some other non-SF team.
Bonilla was on the Mets, had 87 RBI, 100 even the year before.
Phil Plantier 34HR for the Pads.
John Valentin 11 HR SS for the Boston, Michael Cooper or someone at 3B. Of course Mo at First, and Mike Greenwall in LF. Spacing on 2B, C and other OFers.
Canseco fucked his elbow pitching, 10 HR in his first season in Arlington. So Ruben Sierra on Oakland. Reggie Sanders the Reds Eric Davis and Kurt Gibson on the Tigers? Strawberry on the Dodgers bench, Kevin Maas on the Yankees bench.
A few names/team combos from 29 years ago.
Me Bordick still on Oakland before heading to he stinky O's, Walt Weiss on the... Rockies?
