Was this his way of blaming the officials for the loss? In case you missed the story, Dak didn't condemn the trash tossing at officials after the Cowboys loss to the 49ers. Video of both incidents are found in the link...
I think it's a bit of stretch the blame the refs. When you get 14 calls against you, then you have no one to blame but yourself.

I think he gave an honest apology but that fine was to be expected. Given how the Cowboys just lost and getting a quote soon after im sure he spoke honestly at the time and felt anger towards the officials only to realize either because of his publicist or because he calmed down it wasn't the right thing to say.

He was clearly frustrated and made that comment half-jokingly. You don't want your QB of all people saying stuff like that, but it's not like the guy gave a speech blaming the refs for their loss or openly encouraging people to attack refs. I understand the fine in principle, but I think the public reaction was a little overboard.

Dakota is his middle name. So, it's short for Dakota.

Too many pee wee and school coaches and parents don't need an excuse to get physical with refs.

The coaches and parents that would do that, would do that regardless of Dak's comments. I was more disappointed for the fact that kids would hear that. Hopefully, they also heard his apology. Stupid thing to say but it can't be easy having to go up to the mic after any loss, let alone one like that. I think his apology was sincere. Say what you want about him as a QB, and I do have issues with him there, by all accounts he's a good dude. He said something in the heat of the moment that he regretted and apologized for it. Time to move on.

I always wonder what they're expecting from athletes after asking them to answer questions immediately after a crushing, emotional loss. I bet they make a game out of it - let's see who can get someone fined. "How do you feel after that loss? "Why didn't you win?" "What do you think of the refs?" "Fans are saying you suck and you choked - any response on that?"

These are ultra competitive world class athletes. People bust on Belichick for his press conferences but he's got the right idea. Don't give them anything!
