The two men who went to jail because of Eric Edgar Cooke. Darryl Beamish, who was deaf-mute, was convicted of killing a 22 year old woman in her flat, and John Button, who was accused of running his girlfriend down and killing her after a fight. The West Australian police were concerned with the amount of attacks on women and murders with no real suspect, so they pretty much forced confessions out of the two men via threats, violence and intimidation (I've read John Button's book). Beamish was almost executed but got life imprisonment instead, ultimately serving 15 years, while John Button served five years in prison. Meanwhile the attacks and killings continued, with the police not realising there was a serial killer at large. Before his execution, Eric Edgar Cooke actually admitted to killing both women, but these were initially dismissed as an attempt to prolong his case. It took decades before forensic evidence would prove that Cooke was telling the truth. John Button and Darryl Beamish were acquitted in 2002 and 2005 respectfully.
Another one that springs to mind is Stefan Kiszko. That's one really sad case of a mentally challenged man in Britain being wrongly accused of killing a young girl and being pressured into a false confession without proper legal representation whatsoever.

I'm basically thinking a case where a person was wrongfully convicted and accused. There is also the case of Dr. Charles Smith. He was a Canadian pathologist, who's flawed conclusions led to a NUMBER of wrongful convictions of murder in cases, where the majority of deaths were **NOT** the result of murder at all. Any case where people saw something but did nothing to help. A few examples:
* Can't remember the name, but there was a woman who was raped and murdered in the woods. At some point of the attack, she was able to escape and ran out of the woods. A passing driver saw her but just kept on going. The killer, who was a teenager at the time, caught up to her and drag her back to the woods to kill her. (If this rings a bell, please let me know the names. I tried googling to find them, but found a bunch of other cases.)
* Carmen Colón, one of the child killings known as the "Alphabet Murders". She escaped from her abductor and went running down the street naked, trying to flag down passing cars. Nobody helped, her killer caught up to her and got her back in his car. She was later found dead.
* Another one that I'd appreciate help finishing if you know the case. I believe I saw this one on Unsolved Mysteries or a similar show back in the day. A trucker was driving along the road at night ( I believe this was in nevada, but I could be wrong) and saw two men fighting beside the road while a woman stood neaby. The trucker didn't stop, but called it in. Later, the body of the woman and one of the men was found nearby.
* If I recall correctly, people witnessed Ted Bundy kidnapping his last victim, but thought didn't intervene because they thought it was a father and a disobedient daughter.

One of Jeffrey Dahmer's victims fits this category. People called the cops because he ran out into the streets naked, but due to a language barrier, the cops basically sent him back with Jeffrey who of course killed him, because they thought it was a gay lovers' quarrel.
And that shit right there is why I would never go to a country where I don't speak the language, because that could very well happen and who would know the difference?

I can't think of any cases like that, more along the lines of this person was so painfully, obviously guilty, and should NEVER have been allowed to see the light of day again, but somehow they're able to make a dumbass out of everybody who believes them and it's so obviously a mistake, it's a misunderstanding, they would never do that, etc.
A big one is Audrey Marie Hilley, who was also a case featured on Unsolved Mysteries, who poisoned her husband and daughter with arsenic, and for that matter about everybody else in her family, and neighbors, etc., murdered her husband, almost murdered her daughter, caused her daughter-in-law to miscarry, tried to break into her son's home INTO the baby's room, literally walked off a prison furlough after conning the warden to let her leave unsupervised. Thank God she got what she deserved and died a few days later from hypothermia.
Another one, I can't be sure of the actual name because he went through so many aliases, most famously, Thomas Devins, that whole spectacle was immortalized in the book Trail of the Fox. A high school dropout car parker cum real estate agent who basically swindled a middle aged woman out of property worth a million dollars, took her to Geneva, shot her in the head, cut her up, scattered her body parts in the mountains so she'd never be found and international jurisdiction could never be determined anyway, came back and played the professional victim, oh the cops were framing him, oh the cops were trying to murder him, he was going to run for political office, blah blah blah, got a life sentence, conned another woman into getting a lawyer to overturn it after 2 years, literally walked out of prison, fled the country, got arrested all over Europe on various charges including grand larceny of $700,000, but in the end, NOBODY wanted to prosecute him and he just walked off a free man.
Also, Cathy Wood, who if you're familiar with the case of she and her lesbian girlfriend smothering 5 elderly patients in the nursing home they worked in, and the way she was able to make all the women around her do literally ANYTHING she said, including beat each other up in the street in the middle of the night for her love, etc., and every single time anybody called her on her shit 'oh no, you're just confused', and then pin everything on her girlfriend who was found to have the mental capacity of a 3 year old, oh SHE forced her huge 300 pound ass to do all those things, stupid widdle wetard always speaking in a stupid widdle baby voice every time she wanted somebody to feel sorry for her for doing something dumb as hell, and they gave THIS bitch parole.

I have been reading about a case for many years that has me infuriated or at least very frustrated. Some of you may have heard of Jeremy Strohmeyer, who was convicted of killing a child in a hotel rest room if I remember it right. He was with a friend of his and they were both high on drugs. He was spared the death penalty by a plea bargain. Strohmeyer said for years that he had no memory of the events. Well, at one point he told the media that he suspected that his friend, David Cash had killed the child. Some time after, he said that the prosecutor in the case had threatened to revoke his plea agreement because he was not admitting to the crime. Now he admits to it. Not very convincingly in my opinion. I am rather certain, from several aspects of the case that I have observed over the years, that Strohmeyer is not guilty of the crime. Anybody remember this story?

You just reminded me of an abduction that happened in my part of the world over 20 years ago. I can't remember all the details, but a teenage girl was walking to school one morning when a car pulled up right beside her and she was snatched, screaming, by someone in broad daylight, right in front of a house which had a couple sitting on their verandah. The couple saw everything, but continued to sit on their arses for another half an hour before telling the police. The girl was found dead the following day. I don't think they got her killer either.
