I found a new one for the collection: The HURDY GURDYSpencer Tracy plays one in Captains Courageous (1937)There's a photo of him and also of the instrument but they won't link for me. A search will bring them up tho' The hurdy-gurdy is a stringed instrument that produces sound by a hand crank-turned, rosined wheel rubbing against the strings. The wheel functions much like a violin bow, and single notes played on the instrument sound similar to those of a violin. Melodies are played on a keyboard that presses tangents—small wedges, typically made of wood—against one or more of the strings to change their pitch. Like most other acoustic stringed instruments, it has a sound board and hollow cavity to make the vibration of the strings audible. What a fascinating instrument an excellent addition for the folk band, thanks for the link and info I needed to look this one up !

Speaking of "giant pianos" While where on the subject "The Words Are in My Heart" an elaborate Busby Berkeley production number utilized 56 white grand pianos, moved around the sound stage by male dancers underneath the piano-shells, dressed in black Gold Diggers of 1935

I remembered another instrument.
Cimbalom - The Power (1968) Miklos Rozsa uses this instrument extensively in his score for George Pal's The Power.
If you would like to hear what it sounds like watch this YouTube video I posted in 2011.

EDIT: I forgot to say that the cimbalom starts at 35 seconds into the video.

Remembered another one.
Serpent - White Witch Doctor (1953) & Journey to the Center of the Earth (1959).
Wikipedia - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serpent_(instrument)
If you want to hear it view my video of Journey to the Center of the Earth. The serpent begins at the 11:00 minute mark. www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0sb159J4O0
No one has mentioned the xylophone. I can't remember any movie in which it appears but Bernard Herrmann uses it to underscore Sinbad's fight with the skeleton in The 7th Voyage of Sinbad.

Another is Viola d'amour. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viola_d%27amore
Again I do not know if it is actually seen in any movie, but Bernard Herrmann (again) used it for his score for On Dangerous Ground (1953).
Herrmann hired musician Virginia Majewsky to play the viola d'amour for the recording sessions. He told the producers that he wanted Majewsky to receive credit in the main titles. Herrmann was told that there was no room for a credit for her so he insisted that she be included on his credit card instead of having a card to himself. I think that is pretty great!

The didgeridoo is often heard in the soundtrack of films set in Australia. The only one where I am sure it is shown is the short Sound of Peace (1997) but I suspect it may also be shown in one or more of the following: -- Australia (2008) -- Walkabout (1971) -- The Last Wave (1977) -- Broken Hill (2009)

Native Drums feature in many a classic adventure, an ominous pulsating beat indicating an uprising and danger to the intruders. From the dark jungles of Africa to the open plains of the American frontier many film titles features a reference to the native instrument.

The trumpet player starts to play following a simple nod from Rick Blaine.
What comes next is one of "THE" music scenes in film history.

spiderwort"That" scene gets me every time. I mean EVERY time ! Thanks to London's link, I see that the Trumpet and Trombone player actually start the piece off together. Shall have to think on the idea of "war of music" but right now, I believe that you are probably correct. In any case, the one in this film must be the BEST.
