It is in the speaker on/off and volume control. It has started recently. Every change in volume is announced by a loud chiming sound. The chime is as loud as the setting, so if for one video you need to turn up the volume, it gives you an ear splitting DONG!
I tried to Google for a solution but any advice I found sent me in a circle around Event Viewer, Device Manager, Computer Management, and other Admin places. One problem is that I don't know the technical name for the noisy signal nor why it began in the first place.
I have Windows 10 and the speaker is Realtek High Definition.
Many thanks in advance for any thought you may have.

mikef6, have you tried this: Open Settings Open System Choose Notifications & Actions Scroll down to where you see 'Get notifications from these senders' One of the options should be Audio ... make sure it is off

mikef6 , have you tried this: Open Settings Open System Choose Notifications & Actions Scroll down to where you see 'Get notifications from these senders' One of the options should be Audio ... make sure it is off Thanks for the lead. I got to the place you describe but under "Get notifications..." all the choices are grayed out. There is an Audio On: Banners, Sounds but the setting can't be changed. As long as I keep the audio muted it won't sound any other time. I'll just have to live with it each time I change the volume. Maybe I need a new computer. This one is 8 years old. Thanks again.
