I'm not sure what to make of this, but if you haven't heard, Stan the man is being reported as having said there will be a surprise character or two in Infinity War that is a fan favorite.
I'm inclined to temper my expectation and say it's not going to be anything huge, and maybe at best would be a brief cameo of some of the Netflix or Shield cast showing how they might be effected.
But the comic geek in me is saying something insane like Silver Surfer. Now if your first reaction to that was "fox owns the rights you idiot" then spare me, I get it. However, I am in the camp of those who think it's at least plausible that a deal of some sort might have been worked out between the two, and I actually thought that way back at the start of production on fant4stic, as that film's existence and bizarre production was so unprofessional that it came off as a rights leverage stunt for a deal that never went through, and the film had to be made in the end, which is why it's one of the single worst comic films of all time. Add into that the recent use of Ego, Negasonic, the Watchers, the X-Men tv series, and Marvel comics actually putting FF and XMen back in the forefront of their stories, and it just seems like something might be brewing. I don't know. I'm not getting my hopes up. But I am thinking how epic it would be to see Surfer race to snatch the gauntlet off of Thanos' hand.

Well, between Fan4stic's pisspoor box office performance and the lackluster performance of X-Men: Blue Guy They Try to Pass Off as an Iconic Villain, Fox might be feeling a little humbled.

Instinctually it seems like all of the pieces in play mean some sort of deal has happened. And I mean every piece from this "secret character" thing, to the new x-verse tv series, to Ego, to the "completely different MCU after phase 3" thing, and even the Spideyshare deal, which seems to have laid some nice groundwork for sharing.
BUT, I'm trying not to make too much of it. Maybe it's nothing and the new character is just She-Hulk or something.

I laughed out loud in the theater when Mr. Blue Man Group said that one. It was the delivery. SaveSaveSaveSave

Well, I just read the shit out of the Korvac Saga. I wouldn't mind if it was a setup for him. The raw material is there for their next, great cinematic big bad.

Nice speculation, the bread crumbs are all there. As you said, we could be reading too much into it, but it isn't that crazy a thought when you consider how much money there is to be made by all of the studios before the bubble bursts.

Then again, the Foxverse never really did have good costumes outside a select few.

Well from a TV series I'd like to see a Ghost Rider or Daredevil cameo.
For a brand new re-appearance Blade or Howard The Duck
For someone completely new...Union Jack, Spider Woman or Moon Knight

Thanks, but I really don't get "bubble bursters". Why do so many of you act like at any moment people are going to stop watching comic book films? Where does this come from?

But why would the surprise character be a bad guy? Wouldn't another major bad guy take away from Thanos? Are you saying he's helping Thanos? I'm just not sure where a character like Korvac would fit in. What do you think?

I was thinking of a pre-god Michael Korvac cameo to plant the seed of him being the next over-arching big bad. Someone has to step in once Thanos has been put to cosmic bed. SaveSave

Westerns, gangster movies, disaster movies, high school dramas are some examples of films that at one time were all the rage and now only appear sparingly. To me there are so many options available in MArvel alone that I feel like they could make these movies forever. But I'm a fan, the question is how do general audiences feel? I also think there are endless historical biopics that would make compelling films but Hollywood won't roll the dice with them because general audiences wouldn't care. Time will tell, I'm hoping this is the tip of the iceberg but who knows?

Action movies still exist. Horror movies still exist. Comedies still exist.
It's not like every genre just stops.
Could there be a bubble? I guess. But as one who doesn't use that phrase, it's interesting that for 15 years the bubble is always just around the corner. Any day now it's going to burst. I'm wondering if in 10 years people will still be using it, or if they'll finally stop using it. It's just curious to me. In 20 years. In 30. Is a bubble always right around the corner?
BUT!!! Like you, I enjoy the possibility of getting into different genres and I think that is absolutely how they survive, and I actually think Marvel is going to try a lot of different things coming up. They've got all the capital in the world to do anything they want now.

Westerns were made by the hundreds every year from the very beginning of film as a thing to the early 80s, at which point they had a slow fall from grace. Gangster films come and go like a tide. Disaster films will have their day again, too.

Disaster films will have their day again, too. I didn't say they'd fall out of favor overnight. I also know the media cycle moves much more quickly these days, and the marketplace is flooded. On the flipside, as I believe Feige pointed out in an interview, comic book movies are not a genre unto themselves in the same sense a Western is. There are stories involving sci-fi, mysticism, all forms of action/adventure, various time periods and locales, etc. There are countless options to choose from, and I'm sure Marvel will continue to branch out into all of these directions the way they have so far. They've done a tremendous job building their brand, audiences will be more likely to trust them on new cinematic journeys with each successful film release.

I know you didn't. I was just pointing out that the ride can still be a long one even if the "bubble bursts."

Could it be Fantastic 4? There is a lot of speculation going around that a deal may be made in the foreseeable future...

Could it be Fantastic 4? There is a lot of speculation going around that a deal may be made in the foreseeable future... I doubt that seriously for one reason. This is the culmination of a three phase arc. The story is about the heroes we know already, so I just can't imagine that they are going to dedicate a significant period of time to establishing 4 major new characters.
