On this thread you can talk about Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, rate it and write everything you want about this movie.
Imo this is a real children's classic, with one of the most beautiful scores ever put to film, from the legend him self, John Williams.

A- While there are some lulls like the flying lesson, the length of the film is perfectly fine with me. So much exposition & laid foundation, we didn't have to second guess much of anything after the first couple films.

With CrazyAsshole, twothousandonemark, and SciFive, I really like this one. In fact, to be honest, I've probably seen this one the most, and it may well be my favorite of the series. (What? Blasphemy!) I like the sense of childlike wonder and awe--the magic lurking around every corner--and how darkness balances with lightness: how children's fiction ought to be written. While I think Prisoner of Azkaban, most people's favorite, is the best film of the lot (and Goblet of Fire the best book), I do have to say that Philosopher's/ Sorcerer's Stone is my favorite, that most subjective term.

For me, one of the greatest contributing factors to HP 1 (to avoid the title controversy) is the youth and freshness of the actors portraying the students--especially the Main Trio. As an American, I am constantly in awe of the sheer adorability (hmm, my spell-checker doesn't seem to like that word) of so many British child actors.

The kids were really adorable in this movie and it was the only time they looked so young. After the second movie, there are slight changes but they were really pretty little in the first film. It's incredibly cute to see them this way.
