No, it's not Luthor or some Hollywood villain. According to the 25 minute video from Veritasium it was Thomas Midgley Jr. (May 18, 1889 – November 2, 1944). Midgley was the developer and main promoter of Leaded Gasoline and Freon, a gas used for air conditioning and refrigeration systems. According to video presenter Derek Muller Leaded Gasoline has led to tens of millions of deaths while Freon has caused major damage to the ozone layer. And Midgley knew better, even in the 1920s.
