A seven-part miniseries, with four episodes already having aired.
Based on a true story about the murder of a mother and infant by members of a Mormon fundamentalist cult. The trailers intrigued me. It looked a lot like True Detective. Pretty good cast, including Andrew Garfield, Sam Worthington, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Wyatt Russell, and Rory Culkin.
Unfortunately, the miniseries so far has been a bit boring, with way too much time spent on the history of the LDS religion, including flashbacks to the old days with Joseph Smith and the early Mormons. Slow-paced, with little to hold onto one's attention.

Finished it. It did not get better. The series was an absolute slog to get through, with the finale running at a feature film length. Seemed more obsessed with taking down the LDS Church than with telling a good story. (The writer, Dustin Lance Black, is ex-Mormon.) The two lead detectives are completely fictional, and many events feel very much like dramatic creations more than the facts of what happened. Skip it.

I think I'll just read up on the real case instead.

Sounds like a typical FX miniseries. I think the last one I tried watching was the remake of Black Narcissus.
