I counted at least five clear, big scoring opportunities for Arsenal in the first half in addition to the goal they scored. For this much dominance, 1-0 seems meager and might come back to bite them if they don't convert one of these opportunities for a more comfortable 2-0 lead. On the other hand, Arsenal's defense, said to be depleted, seems to be holding just fine and clearing away Chelsea's opportunities. I'm curious to see how the two teams will come back playing, in the second half. If Arsenal becomes conservative trying to secure the result, they'll lose. They need to keep pressing and score more. If Arsenal do concede for 1-1 you can see their heads going down after that, they are that kinda team. And probably quite likely they will concede at some point with their defensive frailties. Like you say, they need a 2nd. Been a good game so far, much better than the Europa League final on Wednesday.

This game should be shown to all American sports fans who criticize soccer. 1. Not boring at all. Constant attacking and a lot of movement from both teams with some very beautiful plays. 2. Diving got severely punished. So, yeah, soccer *can* be a great sport to watch! Any sport can have its great moments and be an utter snoozefest. I've seen plenty of American football games that would have made a great anesthetic. I've seen 0-0 "soccer" draws that were heartstopping. You either get it or you don't. I grew up in the 70's when the NASL had its 15 minutes. Been a huge fan ever since. You should have seen the Real Madrid-Barcelona match a few weeks ago. See if you can find it online.

Wenger deserves a 20 year contract now.
Arsenal fans in a couple of years time are going to look back and say "maybe he weren't so bad after all".

Nice result, but it just about guarantees another year of Arsene. Oh well, be nice to see them hoist the Europa League trophy.

Wanted Chelsea to win but seeing Terry look unhappy is kind of worth it. Now you can leave, jackass. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

I do get it. I have nothing against soccer. Or at least, I have little against it (I don't like the diving - which is why it was so refreshing to see a player get a red card for simulation today). I do think that it's a question of quality. Like I said in my first post here, I'm not a habitual soccer fan but I do enjoy high-quality games when I can see one (they aren't that frequent this side of the pond), and I've seen some phenomenal 0-0 games like you said - very tense affairs with plenty of near misses that made it all highly exciting. The bottom line is that any sport played by the best athletes in high-quality games is exciting, and obviously our MLS here bears no comparison to the top foreign leagues, which is why many Americans find soccer boring, if they aren't exposed to the real thing from Europe and South America. Yes, American football, my favorite sport, can be boring too (generally though, it isn't, at least not in the NFL - I suppose, however, that the sport must be very boring when played in other countries - not many people are aware of the fact that these days there are dozens and dozens of countries with American Football leagues - naturally in those other countries the best players won't be playing so it will be a snoozefest). But even though I'm not a huge soccer fan, I do enjoy watching these high-stakes games, and when I hear about one that is coming I make a point of watching it. I'm planning to watch the CL final between Juventus and Real Madrid next Saturday. I'll be rooting for Juve. I also enjoy watching the USMNT although they haven't been very exciting for a long time now - thank God, that German con-artist of a coach is now gone so hopefully our team will improve and have a decent showing in Russia in 2018. My best friend is a huge sports fan, but he hates soccer. The idiot constantly uses the word "boring". Yet he watches golf and NASCAR. He will be into it next year for the World Cup, but that's it. He is eight years younger than me and missed out on the NASL. I probably wouldn't be a fan, but I caught that brief window. People forget that for a few years, soccer was on the threshold of becoming a major sport in the US. Big game for the USMNT on June 8th. They stumble against Trinidad, and they could be in trouble. Mexico after that on the 11th, but that on the mountain top in Mexico. They need to get three points from these next two and hope Panama doesn't get all six. Klinsmann put then in a huge hole with that 4-0 ass kicking from Costa Rica.

An Arsenal loss would've set up a more interesting 17-18 campaign for English football. Now they've got an in via Europa, & it's a bit more status quo. I wonder if they'll rest on laurels & be deceived by this result.
