All I will say is if I would've given up on every show that had a not so good first episode I would've missed a lot of great shows. Agreed on this, not all the best tv shows have great pilots. Actually two of my favorites had very weird ones and I kept watching them because I knew they would get better those are The Tudors and The Borgias. The Tudors I knew would get interesting once Anne Boleyn meets Henry VIII and The Borgias well I knew it would be good because i heard that family was as scandalous as The Tudors. Actually most series have crappy pilots. Now on the other way around 13 reasons had a great intriguing pilot and got sooo boring at episode 4. So the pilot is not a guarantee the show will be good or bad though it helps to convince you to stay at least for the first 5 episodes but it doesn't say how good or bad a show will be
