The number of qualifying cities should be increased. If Atlanta and Miami are going to qualify, so should other metro areas that are over 1 million in population.

TEXT:
Veteran Emmy winners Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner have been announced as the producers for the upcoming 95th Academy Awards. Weiss has directed seven previous Oscar telecasts. New Academy CEO Bill Kramer made the announcement yesterday during an event for members at the Academy Museum with plans on “reinvigorating” the show with one of the most important rules being “determining how to best honor all craft areas on air”. That suggests they plan to avoid the controversy that swirled around this year’s ceremony prior to its airing when numerous major below-the-line awards were pre-recorded and then edited back into the broadcast – a move that drew the ire of the filmmaking community and many Oscar fans. In its statement, the Academy says it plans to continue a theatrical requirement for eligibility, push both a love and reverence for film throughout the ceremony and an emotional investment in the nominees, and have plans for more streaming elements this year. It is unclear who will host the 95th Oscars, which will be held on Sunday, March 12th at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
