www.avclub.com/taika-waititi-star-wars-kathleen-kennedy-1848938532Looks like Taika's movie will be the next SW release, with Patty Jenkins's coming after that. They'd better get a move on. If they miss the a December, 2023 release slot, they'll have to wait until 2025 so as not to conflict with Avatar 3. Not sure of Avatar 3 has already been shot. If so, perhaps they can move it up a year and give Taika's movie the 2024 slot.

I doubt either of them are getting made. I think both Star Wars and Star Trek are just about done on the big screen, at least for the foreseeable future.

Ok, so long as he leaves the comedy out.

According to Kathleen Kennedy, they’re committed to a 2023 release for Taika Waititi’s film. Let’s see if it works out.

"We're moving further beyond the existing sequels as we look to our movie space," Kennedy told Empire. "The sequel era is what we talk a lot about in terms of where we're going with our movies, and just how far out from that we’ll go. That's very much the space we’re concentrating on."

I can't remember who they spoke to at Disney, but I read something this past weekend about how they are "moving away from the Skywalker family" with further STAR WARS films from Disney. If they are in the sequel era, that'd mean they could follow stuff with Poe, his father, stuff from his home world, and what he did post-First Order. You could follow Finn, pretty much the same way. Or, they could go more THE MANDALORIAN route, where it's someone who isn't a known character but has enough connection that it allows for references to be dropped and/or the occasional guest star that's a familiar face (i.e. if they follow some characters who is helping displaced formerly enslaved wookies return to their homeworld, they might run into Chewbacca).

According to Kathleen Kennedy, they’re committed to a 2023 release for Taika Waititi’s film. Let’s see if it works out. I've seen people who know about the business say that for these big, CGI-heavy movies, two years is the general timeframe of shooting and releasing one of them. We're a year and a half out from the Dec. 2023 slot, and there's no word on when production would even start. I'm dubious on whether they could make the deadline. And as I've said before, if they don't make the deadline, they'll have to wait until 2025 because Disney already has Avatar 3 slotted for Dec. 2024.

That's the right call. Leave the Skywalker era behind and move to other stories set in the same universe.

Leave the Skywalker era behind... I think we should leave even calling it the "Skywalker era" behind. That's simply a marketing term coined by Disney to attempt to legitimise their trilogy and give it an equal footing in the consumer's mind with George Lucas' work. These films don't deserve it nor did they even in actuality have much to do with "Skywalker" per se...

Make a Star Wars movie taking place 1000 years after the fall of the Empire with no connections to the previous movies.

That's yet to be seen. I don't know. I'm still writing. I'm still coming up with the ideas and storylining it and just wanted to make sure that it feels like a Star Wars film.
Because, I could say, "Oh yeah, we'll just write any old thing and set in space and then put Star Wars on the front." But it wouldn't be a Star Wars film without certain elements and a certain treatment, so I've just got to make sure that it stays within that wheelhouse.

/Film's Hoai-Tran Bui asked Waititi if he found it difficult to bring his brand of comedy to the "Star Wars" universe, as the franchise's ethos is markedly different from that of the MCU. He responded: "No. No, I'm able to kind of bring my tone. At the moment it's just very early, because I ... still haven't even finished the script. I'm still trying to come up with ideas and I'm mostly kind of in that part of the process where it's still very kind of open. And when I write, I kind of write every idea I've ever had and then start to kind of chisel it down into something. But I'm still throwing everything at the wall right now."
