Some people aren't moved by any type of military movie , but a massive amount of effort and finance went into making the new Top Gun . Tom Cruise was one of the Executive Producers who oversaw this production and it shows , with nearly all of the stunts done by the actors them- selves , and outstanding photography showcasing the hair-raising antics in the sky . Maybe not a technically perfect storyline but a great adventureous joyride . 10/10

A-
Top Gun was a music video, & when sequel was announced, I was afraid TC would be trying to go back to that well. Thankfully, the movie & TC himself actually went too far the other way towards stoicism & nuance. While lacking the MTV quotient of the film, yet mightily boosts is riveting real world action.
It's arguably Tom Cruise's opus for all his on & off screen work involved with it.

7. Great production qualities: cinematography, effects, music, editing, etc. but workman quality acting and writing. Basically a two-hour recruiting video for the Navel Aviation program and an old-fashioned (and out of fashion) flag waver that makes the U.S. so righteous they can attack any foreign country without declaring war and its pilots can rack up "kills" and be proud of it. Left a bad taste in my mouth. Plus, the movie wisely ends before the international incident and outrage that such a preemptive attack would generate.

5/10 (barely)
Even more ridiculous than the '86 original... A slick, shiny, well-oiled machine that does nothing except churn out the tritest of clichΓ©s, one after the other, like little plastic molds by a 3D printer.
I could not believe how utterly stupid the big mission that climaxes the film is.
