You don't have Judge in the conversation? Andrew Benintendi should get some votes: .314 avg; 31 rbi why in the name of Grandpa's soggy white sack did the Red Sox trade Ben in 10D? Made no sense, especially after losing Betts. Not saying he would even put up Mookie numbers but why trade a guy who was a good bat after losing your other corner outfielder. He's only making ("only" hahaha) $8,000,000 and made $6,000,000 last year and the Sox picked up half of that. And they got part time Franchy Cordero and a used bag of baseball for him. Dopey move.

It's Aaron Judge's award to lose right now.
It's going to be really interesting to see what his new contract will be in the offseason, especially if he wins the MVP and Yanks win the WS. Yes, he injury prone and could be the type of player that falls apart quickly. But he's only 30, hits tape measure home runs and is a very marketable player. And he's not a lock to stay in the Bronx, according to A Rod
The Yankees have let superstars walk when the FA price wasn't right. And they do seem dedicated to financial responsibility. If he asks for 10 years, the Yanks might let him go.

Because chicks dig the long ball. 29 HR. Alvarez 24. And because the Yankees are 5 up on Houston. He's 5th in OPS at .981, Alvarez is 1st at 1.063. Alvarez better SLG, OBP, AVG, Runs Created, Adjusted OPS+, Adj. Batting Wins, Offensive Win %, Win Probability Added, Situ Wins Added, Championship WPA (cWPA) Trout is #1 in WAR at 3.9. Alvarez 3rd, Judge 5th

Alvarez has two handicaps. He's a DH and he doesn't play in New York. And we all know that the player with the best stats doesn't always win the MVP. He does play outfield. Both he and Judge have 3 outfield assists and 1 double play this year. He gunned a guy down at the plate yesterday.

I've thought Judge but Alvarez is definitely coming on strong. Judge tends to get injured.

Oh, I'd never wish injury on anyone, ever. I'm just assessing a propensity for injuries in terms of predicting the winner.

Shohei Othani made a statement last night. 7 IP, 0 ER, 3 bb, 10 k. And two RBI's. Three man race now.

Judge. If the Yankees win the AL East by 10+ games, & he's got 57 homers... book it.

It will be tough to win it again, voters have been stingy with votes to players who put up good numbers every year, ask Mike Trout. If the Angels hadn't imploded, he might have had a chance. He still might. He won't put up quite the offensive numbers he did last year but his pitching is better, he's definitely a candidate. I think it would take huge numbers for him on the pitching or hitting side to win it again, though. If someone had a similar season to what Vlad Jr had last year this year they'd win it over Shohei this time. I find Shohei a super interesting case overall. He has to have great numbers on the pitching or hitting side to make the Hall - he needs to have another six or seven similar seasons to his MVP year and he's in.

Shohei Othani made a statement last night. 7 IP, 0 ER, 3 bb, 10 k. And two RBI's. Three man race now. It's always fascinating when you have one guy putting up great numbers but the team still sucks. Like Steve Carlton going 27-10 on a 1972 Phils team that won 59 games. 1.97 ERA, 12.5 WAR that led the league. Morgan was 2nd at 9.3. He was 5th in the MVP voting (Bench, B. Williams, Stargell, Morgan) with 1 first-place vote. And this guy is doing it as a batter and a pitcher.

Baseball can say that MVP voting isn't weighted by the standings but we all know it is. If the Yankees win 115 games, Judge will get the MVP no matter what Alvarez and especially Othani does. People will always argue that a player on a 95 loss team can't be all that valuable. And a pitcher who only appears in 31 games can't be valuable. And name the damned awards. Why the pitcher award is the Cy Young and the ROY is the Jackie Robinson Award yet the MVP is nameless is silly. Make the MVP the Babe Ruth Award and the POY the Hank Aaron Awards or whatever.
