Holy Shit...
JAMS & JELLIES!
Got bread & peanut butter here at home, but needed some more jam/jelly today when I went to the store... That section was half empty, and the store was limiting the purchase of only two jars per customer!
Never seen that before...
Went to Two Walmarts & a Meijer today in order to make sure I got everything on my list... Got most of it...
Prices didn't seem to be higher, but selections were poor for many items or they were sold out... And I noticed a lot of stickers on the shelves limiting the quantities that can be purchased, and these were for things that hadn't been restricted before, during the last two years...
LIMIT 2 cans of Dinty Moore "Chicken & Dumplings" and/or "Beef Stew" meals...
Lots of canned goods... had purchasing limits...
Not sure if companies are preparing for the worst in the next couple of months... or if the demand is just so high, and so they are trying to limit sales to keep price gougings/product scalpings down for all customers, so that everyone can get their fair share.

I last shopped early on Sunday morning.
I can't say that I saw a worsening situation with empty shelves, nor have I seen any signs that limit "per customer" purchases. However, it was very early (6:30), so employees may not have been fully into stocking, yet. Also, the store has noticeable "Now Hiring," signs on the door, and at check-out.
Tomorrow, a neighbor and I are going to hit Costco, for an apx. once-a-month visit. I'll report back, if there are real signs of shortages.

Was in two large supermarkets today and didn't see anything unusual.
Except the kombucha I bought the past few weeks went from $2.79 to $3.28.

He posted it and the heading is misleading. The article says NOTHING about "farmers cannot afford diesel" or that being a cause of an impending food shortage.

Prepare a big hit to peanuts in particular, as we are the "Peanut capital of the world".

I've been warning about this since March. There's several threads about it. There's also unfavorable weather conditions in much of the USA for planting this year, and famines in India and East Africa. This is going to be bad. imdb2.freeforums.net/post/5358972/thread

Things are going to cost farmers more. NOTHING in the article about "farmers cannot afford diesel"!

IMDB2.freeforums.net/post/5358972/thread We've got a domino effect going on, and it's looping back around and it's getting worse, each time. Just saw another article TODAY, taking about fuel prices rising. AGAIN!... (Also another local business is shutting it's doors.) These farmers aren't rich, and don't have the manpower they need to properly farm... Sooner or later something's got to give. Pretty soon, even food shippers won't be able to afford to ship the food if it's available... at least without another price increase to cover their services... or well see fewer shipments. By the way, do we still have cargo ships sitting in harbors due to Covid? It amazes me, how some people just can't see the bigger picture... Less Food, Less Gas, Fewer Shipments, Higher Prices... Rinse and Repeat.

Do you seriously think there are no farmers who won't plant now that their operating costs have gone up so much? The margins of small and even medium farmers weren't very big to begin with, which is why they rely on subsidies so much.

Sooner or later, there will be an operational wall, they can't over come. Maybe not today... But it's rapidly approaching. It's a shame that you can see the bigger picture.

The queue at ports has eased up some, but it's still an issue.

Farmers here have all planted already and some have the first hay crops ready and waiting for picking up. BUT you are sidestepping the FACT that your opinion heading is not supported by your article. Again ! As usual!

Their costs go up yes ...nothing about them not being able to afford those costs. and ON TOPIC: Much of the "food shortage" right now is because of a shortage of CANS !

Much of the "food shortage" right now is because of a shortage of CANS ! The Jelly I bought was in a Glass Jar. Yah .. I know ....jelly usually is ! Much of other food shortage is because of cans stuck in some pipeline or other ! The spaghetti sauce I like is in cans and the shelves are bare.

I posted this in another thread a week ago, but can't find it now... But it seems it's time for a repost anyway.
Jimmy definitely sees all those dominos out there getting ready to be tipped... Maybe it won't happen in the next couple of months, or maybe it won't happen at all (I hope not)... But all the factors ARE in place.
Like it or not.

I can't say that I saw a worsening situation with empty shelves, nor have I seen any signs that limit "per customer" purchases. At the beginning of the pandemic .... ages ago .... Aldi's and WallyWorld both had limits on the makings for chili - tomatoes, beans etc. and even so the shelves were severely depleted. So far, everything is back to as many as you want ..but some things are missing. Like gaps in canned soups aisle!

Here, the Miller-Coors plant stopped shipping beer bottles because they couldn't get the glass. They went all cans for a few weeks.
If you go to a liquor store, you'll see 'fancy' brands that you would never expect to be in anything but glass in plastic bottles. Particularly in the bourbons and whiskeys.

And if you think about it... There is a ship shortage too... Possibly trucks or trains as well...
For every ship, sitting in a harbor for days or weeks, unable to offload it's cargo... It's not making other shipment runs during that time...
The companies aren't just going to buy or rent more ships, in the mean time... and that's assuming they can afford to do that. (Maybe raise prices some more to do that?)
Another part of that Domino Effect I mentioned.
Oh, and those need fuel too...
