My favourite song of all time is 'Be My Baby' by the Ronettes. #1.
Outside of the work of sister bands Throwing Muses and the Pixies, who are my favourite bands, rounding out my top 5 rock and pop songs are 'Old Man' by Love, 'Stand!' by Sly And The Family Stone, 'Marquee Moon' by Television and 'Down In The Tube Station At Midnight' by the Jam.
Which do you prefer?
Thanks!

As I noted in another thread you started, How do you judge music?: I've noticed that sometimes I first judge the music subconsciously - specifically I've noticed that my head moves if the album is good. Once I found myself saying out loud, "I like this", and then I realized that my head had already been moving for several seconds. My favorite of the four you listed is 'Down In The Tube Station (At Midnight)' (1978) - The Jam. It's not heavy, but it's upbeat and got my head moving - it passed the "head test" and is the clear winner. It was also the only one that I could hear on "mental jukebox" after it was over.

I was about to vote for Neil Young's Old Man with R.E.M.'s Stand 2nd.
Stand - Sylvester Stewart and the Stone Family

Neil Young was approached to co-produce the album by Love that 'Old Man' in on. He considered it but was keen to start out on a solo career at the time.

Aloha Petro.
Respect and stuff to you...you're a top egg.....but I personally am not bonkers on any of these. All I can offer is my least fave which is Tube station by the Jam. As irritating to me as most of the Jam output although I do like a big chunk of Paul Weller's solo stuff
But hey ho.....it's all subjective......and Respect again.

'Marquee Moon' (1977) - Television
and
'Down In The Tube Station (At Midnight)' (1978) - The Jam
equally.
