Not all of his ideas are bad. If Mace were still alive* having him struggle with being taken over by the Darkside makes sense. And Finn finding him and trying to help him return to the Light, not bad. That sets up the training, okay. But… …the other ideas: - Maul is officially dead. Killed by Kenobi in the Rebels animated series. - They’re not going to kill off Rey for a plot device. Disney may treat Luke Skywalker that way. But the sky would fall before they did that to their beloved SW Disney warrior princess. - Finn has essentially been a poorly defined sidekick for Rey. I doubt Disney LucasFilm will do anything more than that with the character. *There’s a very small window that could allow for Mace Windu to be resurrected. (After all they resurrected Maul and he was sliced in half). We never see his dead corpse from the fall and it’s never definitively mentioned that he’s dead. And even Samuel L. Jackson teased that he could’ve survived the fall in an interview comment once. But I don’t think there’s any chance of that ever happening. Mace is - for all intents and purposes - dead.

They’re all bad ideas because Finn sucks. Also Mace is dead or else there is no death in Star Wars.

They’re all bad ideas because Finn sucks. Also Mace is dead or else there is no death in Star Wars. Yeah. This is true. The bottom line is that there’s no redeeming Finn’s character because (like you said) he sucks. And he really does suck that bad. He’s supposed to be a traumatized stormtrooper who got elite battle training. But he wants to run away from the First Order in fear. But he celebrates killing his former stormtrooper brothers. Yet he’s also a bumbling idiot who used to have janitor duty and plays up for Jar Jar Binks type laughs. But he doesn’t know how to fly a ship (in TFA) yet he knows how to be a gunner on all types of ships. Then miraculously knows how to fly ships in TLJ. And he is addicted to pining for Rey despite it being a platonic relationship yet acts clueless when presented with relationships with other female characters. His character is all over the place (which is what I meant by poorly defined). He’s just a sidekick who is plot device silly putty! Yeah, you’re right. All of the ideas are bad because Finn sucks!
