Being horrified and angry is an overreaction, but just imagine if they had a male-only screening for Thor Ragnarok later this year? The whole world would lose their minds! Sorry, but that is a dumb idea. See the cute little orange kitty in my avatar? I kitty napped him from my back yard Memorial Day Weekend 2010 & after much debate, my daughter suggested Thor because she knows I have been a Thor fangirl since I was a child in the 1960s because she wanted to call him Uthor after a character in a game at the time (WoW?) Point being, Thor has a lot of fangirls. Thor & Loki. The venue has sold out at least one showing, maybe 2 so it's not losing money for them Because yeah, it's so much fun getting hit on by guys when you're just out to enjoy some girl power. And tell me they wouldnt get hit on It should be up to the theatre. If they decide to do a male only showing for one night, than I see no problem with it, just like I have no issue with a night of a women only screening of Wonder Woman. This controversy is stupid. Let people have their fun!

If a bunch of ladies want to get together to celebrate the first female-led superhero film, more power to them. Supergirl, Elektra and Catwoman are sitting around somewhere angry you said that. Even Lara Croft is like "What the hell?"* Wonder Woman is not the 1st female-led superhero movie. It is, however, a movie about one of the 1st female led superhero comics. *It was a comic before the movies.

Elektra and Catwoman are a bit of a stretch, I consider them to be in the villain to anti-hero spectrum. Considering the poor production, extremely negative reviews and abysmal box office of Supergirl, you'll forgive me if I avail myself of a little selective amnesia.

I view it as a chance for us gals to bond in sisterhood over a flick about the first female superhero ever created.

That's like saying that Superman '78 was the 1st superhero movie because it had a better budget, effects, and was well liked when you had other big screen superhero movies before it. And Elektra and Catwoman are still heroes. They don't set out to save the world/lives, but they do it. All 3 are costumed comic book hero characters and should get that recognition. I don't know. This kinda gets to me like when people say that X-men started the comic book movie craze for this era when Blade started that era (Spider-man actually started this current era).

I view as a chance for us gals to bond in sisterhood over a flick about the first female superhero ever created. The longest running and most popular female superhero. Black Widow beat her out by a year.

I think the phrase "men of the internet collectively lost it" is a huge exaggeration. Men weren't angry or pissed off (well, most of them anyway), majority were just pointing out how it would be considered sexist if the tables were turned. I don't necessarily agree with them, but I also think it's unfair to claim they were having temper tantrums.

No, not at all although, I don't think same-sex activities are something that is necessarily praiseworthy or that should be reviled either. It's just a thing that happens sometimes. If a bunch of ladies want to get together to celebrate the first female-led superhero film, more power to them. I just don't think that would be something I was interested in. I wouldn't be against it either mind you. I just don't have any strong feelings about the screening one way or the other. SaveSaveSaveSaveSaveSaveI agree fully :-)

An all woman screening of "Magic Mike" would make more sense. Why would women want to get together to watch a gorgeous half naked babe do a bunch of high kicks against bad guys?
Female super heroes were never about female empowerment (or whatever), they were about getting teenage boys to keep buying comic books.

It doesn't bother me, but if were being honest here no movie studio or theater chain could ever get away with hosting an male only viewing of a movie. It's blatant sexism disguised as "empowerment". Christ, even strip clubs don't operate prohibited women from entering.

Christ, even strip clubs don't operate prohibited women from entering. That's a pretty common scenario in today's world. There are pretty much no establishments that can enforce a male only clientele but there are numerous female-only gyms, female-only spas, female-only martial art schools, ladies' nights in bars, female-only sections in the train/bus, etc...
