Welcome back to another week of the BEST & WORST edition of 'what movies did you see last week?' thread. For those who haven't been part of it before, basically your host (me) posts my weekly movies and you can comment on those and list your movie for the same time frame. I will get back to you on yours and you can talk to other users here about their films. It's a great place to talk about film. FIRST TIME MOVIE VIEWING Unlocked (2017, Michael Apted) Netflix
Considering this action thriller was made before the pandemic, it makes for some interesting hindsight viewing. It has a great cast (Noomi Rapace, Toni Colette, John Malcovich, Michael Douglas) and moves at a good pace but is a little predictable. 6.5/10 Chasing Sleep (2000, Michael Walker)
In this weird, off kilter, low budget film, Jeff Daniels plays a college professor who wakes up to find his wife has not returned home, then struggles to understand her disappearance. The acting feels deliberately a bit off creating a deliberately artificial reality which I found appealing. Unfortunately it kind of loses its way. 5/10 Timescape (1991, David Twohy)
Jeff Daniels stars in this high concept time travel film that never gets into high gear and never delivers on any promise. 4/10 REPEAT MOVIE VIEWINGThe Talented Mr. Ripley (1999, Anthony Minghella) blu ray
The classic Patricia Highsmith novel is brought to life wonderfully in this gorgeous thriller. Stunning cast, performances, cinematography, this one has it all folks. 9/10 For a few Dollars More (1965, Sergio Leone) 4k UHD Disc
The second part in this thematic trilogy is the first time we see large portions of Sergio Leone's visual genius on display. The story might not be as solid as the previous entry but it far exceeds it in all other areas. 7.5-8/10 The Warriors (1979, Walter Hill) blu ray
This is the first time I have seen the original theatrical cut in a couple of decades and it was great. 7.5/10 Galaxy Quest (1999, Dean Parisot) TV
This film is a great parody on Star Trek and its fan culture. A very well written film with some great casting. 7/10 A Fistful of Dollars (1964, Sergio Leone) 4k UHD Disc
A remake of Yojimbo from a coupe of years earlier but now set in the old west. This film serves as the first part of a thematic trilogy. I like the opening and the last act but the middle hour is not that great. It is a lot more straight forward in its visuals than Leone's better movies and he hasnt learned to quite marry the operatics of a score to the visuals yet. 6.5-7/10 FIRST TIME DOCUMENTARY FILM VIEWING Never Surrender: A Galaxy Quest Documentary (2019, Jack Bennett)
This belated feature length documentary about the film Galaxy Quest is a solid enough watch but has a little too much talking heads and too little behind the scenes. Solid Documentary FIRST TIME TV VIEWING The Offer (2022) TV
This is the story of the making of The Godfather and is based on the memoirs of Godfather producer Alan Ruddy (Miles Teller). The first two episodes are a little underwhelming but the rest of the ten episode series is superior stuff. Essential viewing for any 70's film fans with great writing and performances. Great TVWEEKLY FILM AWARDSBEST FILM: The Talented Mr. Ripley BEST ACTOR: Matt Damon - The Talented Mr. Ripley BEST ACTRESS: Noomi Rapace - Unlocked BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR: Jude Law - The Talented Mr. Ripley BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Gwyneth Paltrow - The Talented Mr. Ripley BEST EDITING: Eugenio Alabiso - For a Few Dollars More BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY: John Seale - The Talented Mr. Ripley BEST SCORE: Barry De Verzon - The Warriors BEST SCRIPT: Anthony Minghella - The Talented Mr. Ripley BEST DIRECTOR: Anthony Minghella - The Talented Mr. Ripley 10/10 - Perfection (or as close to it as possible) 09/10 - An Excellent film 08/10 - A VERY Good film 07/10 - A Good film 06/10 - A Solid film 05/10 - An Average film 04/10 - Below Average film 03/10 - A mostly bad film 02/10 - A mostly terrible film 01/10 - Awful through and through 00/10 - Not only awful but offensive too The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999, Anthony Minghella) I disliked all the Highsmith adaptations I've seen so far. (Wim Wenders' The American Friend is one I've yet to watch though.) I like the source material, The Talented Mr. Ripley very much, but I found both the René Clair version and this one weak, although for entirely different reasons. 4.5/10 For a few Dollars More (1965, Sergio Leone) The story might not be that interesting and the film moves at a somewhat deliberate pace, but otherwise an excellent follow-up to the first film. 7.5/10 Galaxy Quest (1999, Dean Parisot) A very likeable and fun parody. 7/10 A Fistful of Dollars (1964, Sergio Leone) A simple story, but for some reason I enjoy this more than the second and arguably better movie in the trilogy. 7.5/10 Talented mr Ripley - 9 purple noon - 7 American friend 7 ripleys game 5 ripley underground- ns

BEST FILM: Alien BEST ACTOR: Humphrey Bogart - Casablanca BEST ACTRESS: Sigourney Weaver - Aliens BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR: Claude Rains - Casablanca BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: Ingrid Bergman - Casablanca BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY: Derek Vanlint - Alien BEST SCORE: Jerry Goldsmith - Alien BEST SCRIPT: Julius J. Epstein, Philip G. Epstein, & Howard Koch - Casablanca BEST DIRECTOR: Ridley Scott - Alien yup From yours, I don't remember the score from The Warriors, but it's safe to say I would have gone with one of Morricone's. It was a bit of a toss up between the warriors and for a few dollars more. Warriors had a really good synth score that worked well with the film and I always like a synth score

The Talented Mr. Ripley - 6/10
The Warriors - 8/10
Galaxy Quest - 8/10
Mine:
Hellbound: Hellraiser 2 (1988) - 9/10 Nasty, gory and stylishly bizarre sequel to Hellraiser is a fun ride.
Ambulance (2022) - 8/10 A nice surprise here. A very exciting, fast and entertaining action film.
Censor (2021) - 3/10 High hopes for this film. Very disappointed. Starts out well enough. Gets boring.
Warlock 3 The End of Innocence (1999) - 3/10 Some lever ideas put to waste in this very slow horror sequel.
New World Order: The End Has Come (2013) - 1/10 Awful poorly made end of the world film.
All the King's Horses (1977) - 0/10 I heard about this film on the GAM (God Awful Movies) podcast. They said it was the worst film they ever seen. I had to see this for myself. Its on Youtube. Holy crap! This takes awful to a whole new level. Its a film of domestic abuse that actually says the abused woman should stay and be submissive to he abusive husband. No joke. It a film that celebrates spouse abuse. The most disturbing and disgusting piece of shit I could imagine.

Here I am. Yours: Timescape 7.5/10 I saw it a while ago, I remember enjoying it bit not much else. I remember a weird scene of a car crash caused by a horse. The Talented Mr. Ripley 8/10 Yep, I liked it. The cast was good. For a Few Dollars More 8/10 I remember liking it, but really not much more. The Warriors 8/10 Yep, good movie. I read on Twitter that Walter Hill new movie has great buzz, but I'm not sure how reliable it is as a rumour. Galaxy Quest 8/10 I remember liking it. I need to watch A Fistful of Dollars, I only saw the beginning. Mine: Benedetta 9/10 It's Paul Verhoeven movie, finally caught up with it. It's about a nun in a convent in the 17th century in Italy, who has visions of Jesus and the Devil, falls in love with a novice and starts a relationship with her. Her popularity grows within the convent and her town too, and the Inquisition ends up getting involved. I thought it was really great, powerful, very beautiful visually too. I like that it's complex, it doesn't really tell you what's going on, he makes you put the pieces together and make up your own mind about it. I liked Virginie Efira in the lead role, Also, Charlotte Rampling is really great, Oscar worthy, IMO. The Honorary Consul 6.5/10 It's a movie with Richard Gere and Michael Caine. It's about an English doctor in Argentina, during the military regime. He falls in love with the wife of the English honorary consul and gets involved, through some friends, in a plot to kidnap the American ambassador. It's not bad, it's a bit of a mess, I'm sure the book is better. I liked Michael Caine, Bob Hoskins is good too. I liked Richard Gere, but I thought he was kind of funny, because he's supposed to play an English doctor who grew up and lived between Argentina and Paraguay, and he has this American accent, only sometime he tries to have an English one. At a certain point, Michael Caine tells him: oh, you sound English, or something like that, and you go, oh, really, he does? Pacific Heights 8/10 It's a John Schlesinger movie, with Melanie Griffith and Michael Keaton. It's a thriller, it's about a couple who rents an apartmant to a man who turns out to be a psycho con man. I like it, it holds up to me. I like Melanie Griffith, and Michael Keaton is great. He plays the con man.

I really, really loved it, but yeah, it can be a bit much. Benedetta is a bit less wild and surreal, but they can make a double bill, so to speak. www.imdb.com/title/tt16375834/?ref_=nm_flmg_dr_2This is the spy movie.
