Supposedly Anthony Quinn called him "the best actor in America", although I'm having trouble confirming that quote. AK's problem was that he invariably came across as weak, even as a villain. That's great for stage tragedy, but not really conducive to Hollywood stardom. With Mildred Dunnock, Cameron Mitchell, & Lee J. Cobb in the original production of Death Of Salesman. Unfortunately he lost the role in the film to Kevin McCarthy, a likeable actor but lacking Kennedy's emotional depth.
