The CEO of Dick's Sporting Goods has stated they will reimburse an employee up to $4,000 for travel fees in order to get a legal abortion if their state of residence does not allow one
Will you ever buy your sporting goods at Dick's Sporting Goods again?

You talk about being religious, I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the matter. As the sports board is generally more mature than the politics board, I think we can all have a pretty good discussion about how this came about, what it means, and what the implications are going forward vis-a-vis other decisions that are about to reviewed.
What say you?

I am spiritual. Not religious. I prefer not to talk about religion and politics as it leads to nothing but fighting. My own personal beliefs - I do not believe in abortion. Of course there are gray areas like in any situation in life. Everything isn't always black and white. Those gray areas to me are incest and rape Just like I do not believe in guns - to me they are instruments of death (just like abortion represents death) And this is why I consider myself an Independent - not a Democrat or Republican. Because like most Democrats I want stricter gun laws; however like most Republicans I am against abortion

Fair, yeah I can respect not wanting to get into a political/religious discussion about it. Was just curious is all. I am a registered R, but don't vote along with them anymore. I am personally against abortion...for myself/my family. But to me a woman's right to choose is so fundamental, that I find it amazing that abortion is now immediately illegal in a bunch of states, even in cases of rape and incest, as you mentioned. If people don't want abortions because of religious reasons (or any other reasons), they don't need to get them. If people are raped, or simply don't want to have a baby, they should be able to get one. Seems pretty simple to me. There are SIGNIFICANT ramifications here, but I'll leave that for the politics board so we can keep arguing over other stuff.

I also understand the argument (to an extent) of why bring up so many children in poverty My answer to that - then stop having sex. Contraception or abstain I also do not believe in 'My Body My Choice' - that's my seed in her And found it deplorable when Anti-Vaxxers would utter 'My Body My Choice' - the hypocrisy of a lot of Republicans using it when they themselves go ape over a lot of Democrats using it when it comes to abortion But I digress.....
I'm my own person is what I'm trying to say - not Republican or Democrat - I look at the candidates and choose who I think will help my present living situation/conditions the most
i.e. - like when that candidate said he was going to wipe out student loans - people told me I was throwing my vote away - but I was his #1 cheerleader. Name escapes me. Wonder whatever happened to that guy

I am disgusted by the news of Roe being overturned, and frightened for the future of America. A bunch of religious fanatics shouldn’t decide our laws and religion and government should be kept strictly separate. It’s a dark day for America, I believe abortion rights are human rights and it’s scary how the right wing is turning the clock backwards. And there’s plenty of blame to go around for this, the Dems should’ve made Roe codified law when Obama was POTUS and had a supermajority in Congress, and RBG should’ve retired from the Court when Obama was POTUS and we would have one more left leaning justice on the Court. But the majority of blame goes to the GOP, which has become an extremist party as of late. I’m curious to see how this affects things going forward and what the midterms will look like, I hope this gives the left wing a boost but given how Biden isn’t doing a great job overall and the fact that the party in the White House usually loses some seats in the midterms things don’t look great.
To answer the OP’s question, I will definitely continue to shop at Dick’s, I applaud the CEO for standing up for women’s rights in this time, as I said above I think abortion is a basic human right, and I applaud anyone willing to stand up for it.
I’m curious as to what others have to say as well on here, I usually don’t discuss politics on the sports board, as I’m a regular on the politics board so I usually keep my politics discussions there, but I respect everyone here on the sports board and we have a peaceful community that gets along well so I think we can discuss this without it becoming a shitshow like so many threads on the politics board become.

I was in Dicks a couple of months back.
Had to walk past the hunting section.
Gave the customers and store clerk in the section the evil eye and shook my head in utter and complete disgust at them-
And headed to the boxing section to pick up these lil babies!
What beauties! They're all broken in now! Should hear the crack of the heavy bag! My favorite gloves!
Thank you Dicks - nobody was selling them - you saved the day! (this may be the straw that broke the camels back though - I'll see if I cool off)

Those who don't want to shop at Dick's can also look forward to no longer using/frequenting Netflix, Facebook, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Tesla, Lyft, Starbucks, Paypal, Doordash, JP Morgan, etc.
Conservatives want to push back things to the 1800s - - they can put their money where their mouths are. Hope they enjoy whittling, telegrams, and covered wagons.

These are all superficial/material things to me
Do I really need them in my life in order to survive?
Should I continue to use them if I don't agree with their values, ethics and morals?
I think Kyrie Irving was onto something when he stated, - 'I thought Mother Nature belonged to the people. Why am I paying to live here.' In other words - do we really need these worldly objects in order to survive and be happy or can we live simply and even be homeless and maintain our happiness and survive?

Pretty amusing that in the concurring opinion, forward-thinking Clarence Thomas openly said that the court should revisit constitutional protections for contraception and same-sex couples....but didn't mention anything about interracial marriage protections codified in a unanimous opinion before Roe was decided. I wonder why... But this is how it starts and they're laying their cards on the table (and Thomas isn't the first to broach this). If Republicans have their way, contraception wouldn't even be an option. Abstinence or you have a child, that's it. Hard stop. Well, for poor people anyway. And if you think that the Republicans won't try to ban abortion at the federal level when they have the triumvirate again, after years of preaching about state's rights, then I have a bridge to sell you.

I really don’t know about the morality of abortion; whether it’s right or wrong morally? However, I don’t think it’s the government place to dictate whether a woman can have an abortion or not. I think that decision should be left up to the pregnant woman. I can’t imagine what it must feel like to be a scared pregnant woman not wanting a child and being told you must have that baby. Even worse if you attempt an abortion you could be legally punished. That doesn’t sit right with me. It feels like we are depriving pregnant women of their liberty.

Personally, I think companies taking political stances is asinine, but nowhere near as asinine as boycotting a company because of their political stance. Having said that, this isn't a political stance, it's an employer offering aid with health care. If they can afford to do it and are genuinely offering it (rather than offering something very limited and trying to make it appear more generous than it is) then I have no issue with it.
Personally, I'm always a minimalist with the law. Whatever my feelings on abortion are, I can't think of any legal distinction, beyond age of the fetus (and some would argue even that), that isn't completely arbitrary. I'd like to see better and neutral counselling available (not mandatory) for all the options to be laid out. But ultimately, whether good or evil, the choice is a necessary one to have.

Yeah, I think the whole states rights thing is an excuse. Obviously states should have individual rights, however I don’t see that as the intent behind all this. They are using it as an excuse to get what they want. If they could ban it throughout the country they would.

Those were just some of the more 21st century companies. Also on the list was Levi Strauss. Forget watching the NBA - - Disney is on the list. Any of your horror movies that are on Warner Brothers? You won't be giving them a whirl. And these are the companies that have come out within three hours of the decision. What if all the grocery chains jump on? How far are people going to take it?
