anyone seen this? A movie about a kid on the run from bad guys after he is given an Atari game that has secrets for a new weapon hidden on it. It came out in the summer of 1984 (and was a double feature with The Last Starfighter for a while) and had Henry Thomas fresh off ET and Dabney Coleman off of WarGames. This is like a Hitchcock film made for kids. Hell the director and screenwriter collaborated on Psycho 2 the previous year. It's no surprise this movie didn't do well since it is surprisingly dark and violent for a family film. We get people getting shot, guys trying to murder a kid, a part where our main character is stuck in a trunk with a dead body, and in an amazing moment, a part where the Thomas character has to shoot and kill a guy with a real gun! No way would that fly today. Hell, I wonder if this is even meant to be a family movie despite the kid main character. The Thomas character also feels like a young Tyler Durden in a way with his relationship with his imaginary action hero friend (who he models after his dad played by Coleman.) I'd say this is totally worth a watch. Like I said Hitchcock movie for kids. Also, it takes place and was shot in San Antonio and its nice to see a different type of location in a film rather than the typical ones. Coleman in particular is really good in dual role as the father who isn't there enough for his kid and also the imaginary action hero Jack Flack. Vinegar Syndrome recently gave this a loaded remastered 4K release with some amazing packaging

I seem to recall catching some of it on HBO or Showtime back in the 80s. It was decent enough, but not anything that compelled me to want to see it in its entirety.

Yes I saw this. It was ok. Apparently it’s a remake.
