It was one of the most terrifying weapons ever made. But its secret ingredients and the technology used to create the weapon have eluded the best minds since the 10th century. Also called ‘sea fire’ and ‘liquid fire’ by the Byzantines themselves, it was used primarily by the Byzantines to burn away enemy ships from far distances. And what is truly mysterious about this incendiary weapon was that it continued to burn in water that prevents enemies by dousing it off by pouring water over it. To make matters worse, it can stick to any surface and make it burn, be it the ship’s hull or the human flesh. They think it had a lot of ingredients. The priests who made it worked on a type of assembly line, each adding their ingredient and not knowing what the others were adding. That made it easy to lose the formula.
It was scary but it wasn't a wonder weapon. It had limits. You couldn't use in in windy conditions and it had a limited range. When artillery came, that was it for Greek Fire.
But the one amazing thing was, nothing could put it out. Sand, but you needed a ton. Vinegar, but you needed a ton. And they said, it you pissed on it, it would go out.
