Leave a small pile somewhere protected, that is what frogs hibernate under! They also like hollow logs, too - mine has a hollow log with dirt around it and lots of leaves over the top. Beautiful shot of sun coming through the leaves! I remember the good old days when we raked and jumped in the piles, and then burned! Dried corn stalks were tied together at the top like a teepee, and I could hide inside! There will be plenty of piles here and there and everywhere ... twenty plus Maples plus assorted everything elses treewise ! Had lots of toas this year and those tiny tiny ones that seem to appear out of nowhere and disappear just a quickly. The picture is a google image ... I just noticed the face in the leaf pile ! I like the smell of burning leaves and sometimes put some on the outdoor fire in the evening just to enjoy that smell. Ha! I haven't spotted the face yet, can't get it to enlarge... Oh, I love those little, tiny ones that are so fast! I have gotten a few shots; my friend's garden was overrun one day, and I had a fine time! Years ago, I was out in nature, by a stream, and spotted a small one and reached to catch it. It hopped and was taken right out of the air by a water moccasin! Just missed my hand! Edit: found the original image online and saw the face, lol!

For some the joys of Autumn or Fall is picking wild mushrooms in the forests.

This year I brought my canna lilies in, and they surprised me with blooms in November! My blooms look very much like these I found online!

Three early blooms like these on one plant this year ... nothing so far on identical plants in exact same conditions.

rachelcarson1953Yesterday morning at the bird feeder there was a male cardinal. Grabbed the binocs for a better look and ..whoa ! a female too !!! Then another male ....another female and two more pairs on the ground cleaning up the spills. They may have been just been passing through as they have not appeared yet today. Unusual to see them in a group like that.

Today I really need the tranquility of the lotus flower. In Buddhism, it is a metaphor for how livings things rooted in mud can rise through the water to bloom beautifully, an image for inner peace and becoming a better person, rising above the everyday trials and finding beauty.

There is another panama video that shows the names of the birds that would otherwise just be "OHHHH .... pretty bird !!"
