If you have a fan, it's useful to remove the front of the cover. Then, it will push air more towards you. And make you colder.
Seems to me like an obvious thing to do, and it seems like it'd make perfect sense that that would help.
Yet, as far as I know I don't know of anyone that's done it. I've never seen anyone do that. I don't get it.

I Made an air purifier by taping an air filter to my box fan. Like CC said, there is a safety issue.

I imagine it's a safety issue. I would agree ... having NO expertise in electric fans. I suppose it's possible that the wire covering guards against a fan blade flying out from the body of the fan, should it break loose. Again ... having NO expertise in the physics of electric fan design, I wonder if the metal wires of the "cage front," might disperse the flow of air in a more radial range, for greater coverage and relief.

The fans in Catman's house are made to be disassembled in just that way in order to better clean the fan blades and spindle. And while the fans will run without the safety housing in place, in the interest of keeping cat noses attached to cat faces, Catman never runs them without the safety housing in place.

We don't want any purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrréed cat faces.

That would only happen, if you have a lego cat.

And, I described the safety that might be involved. I added the second thought about design. In direct answer to your question: no. I specifically claimed no expertise, and offered thoughts.

If the cover is a grate that allows sufficient air flow (because that’s what they’re designed to do), why would it need to be removed? You think those tiny, thin, metal bars in the grate divert air?

round fans have covers usually, that have a big round thing in the middle. Blocking out even more air.

But the air it “blocks” would still get through. It’d just go around the object.

It would go through still, but with less force.

Too dangerous. Cleaning the blades and grill for dust is the safe and effective alternative.
