I might see this as a curiosity, but the '79 version is a hard act to follow.

Still no word on the release. The actor says he thinks it's gonna be good, but Warners pulling it from the release slate certainly suggests otherwise. Then again, Warners doesn't seem to know what the fuck its doing these days.

I’m betting by Nope we see the trailer for Salem’s Lot. That’ll give them a month to market the movie. Also the Tie In novel for Salem’s Lot is coming out in August. When it comes with NOPE I’ll come back here. well its been pushed back to April so we probably wont see a trailer until October with Halloween ends Came across the novel Dark Harvest in the store today... I guess that adaptation didn't come out in the fall then? I entirely forgot about it until I saw the book.

Fangoria: The Case Of The Missing 'SALEM'S LOT Movie
Cinemacon has just ended, and Warner Bros has done their presentation, and still no word on this movie. They showed a trailer for it last year, and yet this time around it's entire absent. It's looking like this could be another casualty of Warner Bros tax write-off scheme. If the movie sucks they could just bury it forever and recoup some of the budget that way. But they've at least announced that that was the case with some of those other titles, and those were all streaming movies and shows. This was intended, at least at one point, to be a big fall horror release for the studio. It's one of Stephen King's most famous titles and, much like It, has only gotten the TV miniseries treatment before. This was a big opportunity for a hit film. Even if it was terrible you'd think they'd try to cash in, especially since it's already been shot and at least completed enough that they had a trailer. The complete silence is the strangest part...

Hate to say it but it looks like it’s dead in the water It does look that way. There's a good chance it just wasn't good and there were going to be reshoots, and then with all the turmoil at Warner's they just didn't want to pay for them. It's quite a surprise though that a 'major motion picture' (according to the tie-in book I saw in the store the other day) would just be buried without any word like this after it had already been shot. It's weird. It's strange, but we are living in the age of the 'lost film' again for the first time since the silent era.

Are these all opening in a wide theatrical release? I could see Barbarian and, since I'd never heard of it, Dark Harvest getting a limited theatrical window and quick streaming turnaround. Dark harvest is being distributed by mgm its most likely getting wide release There's a trailer now: Looks like it could be OK. I like some of the elements here, but I wish it looked a little more filmic and atmospheric instead morderny and shiny digital. Oh well. I have this book lying around somewhere, maybe I'll crack it open soon. Edit: But no theatrical release, by the way.

variety.com/2023/film/news/salems-lot-new-movie-warner-bros-max-streaming-debut-1235774431/Variety reports that this new 'Salem's Lot maybe be headed to 'max' in lieu of theaters. Warner Bros says that no decision has been made, and the insider source tells variety that the decision has nothing to do with its quality but rather is because the streaming platform needs more content because the writers and actors strikes meant other productions shut down. That of course doesn't explain why all of the previous delays occurred and why this is the first update in 2 years, but I suppose if you were looking forward to seeing this movie then this is some level of good news. At least it sounds like it will be released in some way at some point. It would have made more sense to have done that about a month ago, but oh well.

collider.com/salems-lot-movie-stephen-king-comments/Stephen King likes and recommends it, for whatever that's worth. He says it's mostly faithful and that it 'feels like 'old Hollywood' when movies had patience to engage in a slow burn. ' Hard to imagine that's the case based on the writer/director but that'd be cool if it was true.

Hollywood Reporter said that 'sources believe a 4th quarter release is likely.' If so, one would assume that means October... but who the fuck know what they're doing with thing anymore? I first read about Salem's Lot going directing to streaming on Bloody Disgusting and they didn't even mention a date, probably being careful about posting misinformation. So I googled to another site (I forget which one) and that's where I found the annoucement of May 2024. And now there's this Hollywood Reporter article you mentioned. So yeah, it seems that all these sources can't get their facts straight.
