Katsura started growling at something outside which is quite unusual, so Catman went over to see what she was looking at. Two young red foxes were standing at the back window.
Alas, they bounded away before Catman could get photographic evidence of the event.

And there's a pile of raccoon scat in the neighbor's driveway.
The plot thickens.

speaking of racoon scat ....
the mystery white shell like pieces that were defiantly not shells have been identified as bleached out crayfish bits and pieces.
Things are so obvious once they are figured out.

Alas, they bounded away before Catman could get photographic evidence of the event. When I drive home from a friend's house at night, I have been watching several young foxes growing up! I did once get photographic evidence, because my car is a hybrid and so quiet. And I drive almost exclusively on back rural roads. One night I came upon a gang of baby racoons and their mama, ambling across the road! They looked like they could be real trouble!

I live in a major city, without back rural roads. We are said to be second, only, to New York City in population density. (I do not know if that means Manhattan ONLY, or if it includes the other boroughs.)
That said, I live in an area between The Presidio National Park, to the north, and Golden Gate Park, to the south.
Racoons have the run-of-the-neighborhood, at night. We drive carefully, and most "pet doors," are kept closed during the wee-hours. There are "cayote crossing," signs in The Presidio, and I've seen a few of them out, during the day.
It's kinda cool.

We had a couple of foxes using our back garden as a chill out area until we looked after my sisterβs dog for a few days. Havenβt seen them since then.
