I had scary dreams that Freddy Krueger was coming for me.
I stopped sleeping with my bare feet dangling out the bed because 'Night Of The Living Dead' left me fearing a zombie was going to reach up from under the bed and pull me under. That was scary.

I haven't yet had a nightmare involving a famous horror movie character.

So last night I had a bad dream about being terrorized by Jason Voorhees with his trusty machete. Just barely got away from him. I think I ought to lay off watching horror movies for a while.

Bela Lugosi Dracula, when I was a little kid (and big into old monster movies). He was floating at my window, with a black mist around him, and tapping on it with his fingers, à la that vampire kid in Salem’s Lot (even though I never read, saw, or even heard of Salem’s Lot when I was a kid). He was trying to hypnotize me into opening the window, which to me was the scariest thing, even scarier than having my neck bitten, because that would mean losing control over myself. For some reason Dracula scared me and none of the other Uni horrors did, even then, though I liked and like them a lot. _____________________________________________________________ Oh, just remembered another one. Last January I had a dream that took place in the world of The Purge series, which is weird because I’ve never seen and have no interest in seeing a single one of those movies. Long story short, the dream takes place on “Purge Day,” when all crime is legal. Neighbors come over, acting a little too cheery, and I’m afraid they’re trying to kill me and my family. The neighbors eventually leave, and then, for some reason, family and I leave the house. When we get back, I notice that people have been in the house while we were away—and of course that’s legal in Purge-world. The “Purgers” have tracked muddy footprints across the floor near the tree, stolen knick-knacks, and taken down an expensive painting from above the fireplace and put it on the floor. Now, they haven’t done anything truly horrifying, like murder—just mischievous stuff. Still, I’m terrified in-dream because it ruptures my sense of home security and disturbed because everyone else is perfectly fine with this breaking-and-entering et al., as that’s the world. Dream fades out after I notice the painting.

Had a few dreams about xenomorphs, once they had my uncle's house surrounded.
Also I've dreamt a few times about Xtro (mainly the opening 20 minutes which traumatized me as a kid). That reoccurs occasionally.
I vaguely remember one about Cenobites. They were more like futuristic, cyber-Cenobites that I was trying to hide from in a town.

I used to have dreams about zombies but no movie zombie in particular.
The only horror fiend I've ever had a dream about was Jack-O of all people. 🎃
It was storming and raining at night and I just walked into the front room from the hall and was looking out the big front window (I wasn't close to it, I was against the opposite wall) Could hear thunder and the wind howling.
Then lightning flashed just as I see his grinning pumpkin head outside, then darkness except for his burning red eyes and mouth, next lightning flash his scyth shatters the window as he starts to come in.Then I woke up.

Now that's spooky! Would make a great scene for a horror movie.

Should I know who Jack-o is? Not really unless you're a huge fan of of not so notorious? regional B-film maker Fred Olen Ray's work (I'm not but I have and like his Alien Dead) or saw the pretty memorable VHS cover on video rental shelves in the latter half of the 90s. Made in 1995, produced by Ray and directed by Steve Latshaw. Linnea Quigley is in it and Brinke Stevens is in it for about 1 minute IIRC. I haven't watched it since my used VHS went bad. But it's supposed to get a blu-ray from RetroMedia next year. A family moves to Oakmoore Crossing where years ago the townspeople killed a warlock (amusingly played by John Carradine, iirc had his scenes either swiped from other movies or something and inserted in (because he was dead) here. He curses the town and Jack-O the demon terrorizes them until he's buried somehow. His grave gets disturbed and he starts killing again. Something about the new family's son is destined to kill Jack-O again or Jack-O kill him. It could use some tightening up in story and pacing but I like it, I really like the design of Jack-O and I remember practical gore and we see a pair of boobs right before well, some good gore fx. Its not scary, but fun to watch, especially in October, I remember watching it the most. I'm looking forward to the blu.

If only you'd remembered this nightmare a month ago I made have watched this pre-Halloween.

Not horror movie-related, except indirectly, but last night I had a dream that I was Norman Bates in the show Bates Motel. As with my dream set in the world of The Purge, I’ve never seen Bates Motel, I just know the premise. I’m starting to wonder if that makes sense because my unconscious is filling in a plot based on a premise, whereas if I know the plot my unconscious has no void to fill. Does that make any sense at all?
Putting the dream in present tense for ease of writing:
I am a young Norman, though I don’t look much like Freddie Highmore, who played Norman in that show. Nevertheless, Vera Farmiga is my mother, and I am returning to our house. I am getting out of jail, where I’ve been locked up for years for killing (I think?) a fireman.
The house is shaped like a beehive and has a ground floor and many—I think three?—lower levels. So, basically, not the Psycho house at all. (I don’t know if there was a Bates house in the show.) I, Norman, am angry throughout—not sure what I’m angry at. There’s a closet or some other room with a brown door, and Farmiga tells me, “Oh, we don’t go in there.” At one point I go down a winding staircase and think I’m in the basement, but there’s another level beneath it. I see some classmates (I’m guessing they’re Norman’s classmates; as far as I, the real I, can remember, they didn’t look familiar), including one guy who’s continually in front of me on the stairs.
When I finally reach the end the guy turns around and starts making fun of me. My fists clench up and I want to kill him. But there’s a blonde girl, apparently another classmate, who starts talking to me, and I apparently have a crush on her because my anger dissipates.
That’s about as much as I can remember. Oof, do I have some weird, elaborate dreams.

When I was a kid a movie program we watched was showing clips of Return of the Living Dead 2. The part with the dead rising from their graves. They also showed some other bits form other horror movies that came out. I had a terrible night, lots of nightmares with those scenes. As a kid I was always scared of the Thriller music video and Herbie Hancocks Rockit video(still creepy) And I had my share of Freddy dreams. He scared the shit out of me. Somehow, not much later, it all went away and I started to watch a lot of horror movies and became an instant fan. And now the only movie that scares me is Jesus Camp.

Well I had yet another bad dream about Matt Cordell. This time the undead villain was terrorizing a golf course I was at. I remember one part of the dream in which a few golf players were trying to kill Cordell with their irons in the clubhouse, but they were no match for him; Cordell slaughtered them all with his trusty long knife. And of course he chased me for a bit, but again I managed to escape from him. Barely.
No more Maniac Cop for me for a while!

That reminds me, I had a dream once that mashed up My Girl with Night of the Living Dead, that Vada was being attacked by zombies, and her mother was one of them.

Nightmare? No. But I once had a really weird dream where Freddy Krueger took up the role of Santa Clause because Santa was stuck in a nightmare… as I said, it was a weird dream.

Sounds like what Michael Ian Black said about Nightmare on Elm Street. "Freddy Krueger is just like Santa, he knows when you're sleeping, and he knows when you're awake...and it doesn't matter if you've been bad or good, he's gonna slit your throat."

The other night I had an unpleasant dream about Max Cady terrorizing me and my family in our house. The Robert De Niro version of Cady, that is. Obviously not a horror icon, yet anyone who has seen Cape Fear 1991 knows he did some really horrible things.
In the dream my parents were Nick Nolte and Jessica Lange, and I believe my sister was Juliette Lewis. Can't exactly remember what age I was, but likely a teenager. One part I do remember is I was trying to escape from the house going from room to room trying to figure out what my next move was going to be. Then suddenly out of nowhere, Cady pops up in front of me and grabs my arm, then he says "Stick around, you ain't going anywhere!" Can't remember what happens after that.
