I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, but when I was signed in on the old IMDb site three days ago, it offered me the chance to view what they said would be the new format in August. So I clicked on it, thinking it would be a temporary view.
Well, it wasn't! And I'm now stuck with the new format, which is truly a nightmare -- overwhelmingly difficult to navigate in order to get simple information that before was available on the first page, in titles, right in front of you. Now you have to push button after button after button, scroll through tons of photos, then push even more buttons to get to whatever information you're seeking.
I went to the library this morning to see if it would be the normal IMDb format on their computer, and it was. But on my computer, I only have the new format. Why, I do not know.
I was hoping someone here could help me get back to the old format, at least for the remaining weeks we have it. I would appreciate any and all suggestions. Honestly, for me, this new format is maddening and all but unusable.
(P.S. I've contacted IMDb directly, but as yet have not heard back.)

If you have an account, which I assume you do, select your profile at the top right side of the screen. Scroll down through the menu and select Account Settings. From there, select Content Settings. Check the box that reads "Show reference view." See if that does it.

I didn’t click on that “temporary view” because I suspected that I would somehow regret it. You just validated my decision.

Unfortunately, bartlesby, it didn't change anything. But thanks for the suggestion. That's a shame. Could I ask you how you got the suggestion to change the formatting? I made an account but it isn't prompting me to change it.

It popped up on my screen a couple of times in the two days before, right when I first signed on, but I ignored it then. But when it popped up again a couple of days after that, I didn't really mean to click on it, I was just trying to get a better look at it, to see what it was saying about the cut-off date. But in the process I did inadvertently click on it. And that was it. I have no idea why I was selected, but I wish I had ignored it and not even gone close to it, as I did the other times.
It's unbelievable how horribly complicated the site is now for me (and will be for everyone in August, I think). So those of you who still have the old format, enjoy it now! And DO NOT click on any invitation, should you receive one.
Thanks again for trying to help, bartlesby. I really appreciate it.

And irony of ironies, it was kind of an accidental click on my part. Didn't really mean to do it; was just trying to see what it was, but somehow I clicked and that was the end of everything. The only way that site works with the new format is if you type in a title only. If you type in a person, it's awful! I do not understand their thinking. Whenever there’s a change in almost anything in this life, I typically hate it. lol

Yeah, sorry I couldn't have been of more help. I guess it doesn't matter in a few weeks, anyway, which is unfortunate. Maybe some aspiring coder could scoop the info and make it look like the old format via a browser extension.

I have a great idea .... we ALL e-mail IMDb and tell them that we LOVE LOVE LOVE the new format and they will immediately nuke it and go back to the old one ...including quotes and character cross references ! Tell your friends and neighbors to join the campaign ! spiderwortbartlesby et al

Although I’m not one of those people who hates IMDb for shutting down the boards I do get the feeling that the site has lost it’s way and just wants to be an entertainment news/trivia portal. It started out as a database and was still doing a fine job until the need for garish design makeovers took over. I hope the people who pay for IMDb Pro get a better experience.

This is a screenshot of that box. It was tempting, but I didn't click it.

I too got trapped in that new format first look. It was a case of hate at first sight but, like the others, I couldn't turn it back. Anyway, after a week, maybe two, the database reverted back to the reference view. Now, I live in dread of the permanent change.
During the days of the preview I began using Wikipedia to get my information on actors. Their pages include complete filmographies in a still one glance format.
