The first four are all about stroking the ego of a non-existent, violent, spiteful, petty sky wizard. The fifth commandment should make an exception in the case of parents who are abusive, but doesn't. The last one is about thought policing and it sounds like it could have easily been written by a Third-wave Feminist who believes in "stare rape."
The only good commandments are the ones that tell people not to murder, steal, commit adultery, or bear false witness. And we don't need to have ridiculous superstitious beliefs in magical sky daddies in order to believe these things. So in other words, the Ten Commandments are...yeah, useless.

I honor what is good about my father and give him credit where credit is due even though it isn't easy.

Whether they have any value for you is irrelevant. You will still have to give an account on the day of judgement for breaking every single one of them. I hope you know a good lawyer.

I'm not even sure I agree with the adultery one, if a marriage is falling apart what does it even matter at that point anyways? The other three you mentioned have a gray area that the Bible doesn't really address either (Is it wrong for a starving child to steal food? Is murder ok in self defense? Is it ok to lie if it means protecting someone from harm?)

Is that really supposed to convince people? That's not gonna sway nonbelievers for the same reason I doubt you shiver over the threat of Zeus striking you down with lightning bolts.

I have a feeling God will go easy on the child who steals food because he or she is hungry.
As for self defense it wouldn't be murder.
As for lying is it a lie that bears false witness? That's the key.

If the marriage is pretty much gonna end in divorce, I just don't see what it matters. But then again I try not to stick my nose in what goes on between married couples. Wouldn't it still be "murder" if I were to kill say, Hitler but would save millions of lives?

I'm not saying the divorce papers must be signed and finalized, but the process should have started in my opinion. As for the Hitler thing tricky scenario.

"Is it ok to lie if it means protecting someone from harm?" I believe the command refers to giving a false testimony in court or to the authorities that could result in someone being imprisoned or even sentenced to death for a crime they did not commit. I doubt it refers to lying to someone about an innocent person's location in order to protect that person from harm.

But not all lying is false witness.

Whether they have any value for you is irrelevant. You will still have to give an account on the day of judgement for breaking every single one of them. The 10 commandments include "thou shalt not murder". If you accuse someone of breaking every commandment, you are accusting them of murder. That's bearing false witness. I hope you have a good lawyer. But you probably won't need it, and neither will AngryDukat. Because I don't believe that Europe is going to turn into a theocracy anytime soon; your paranoia notwithstanding.

You would think he would skip one or two of those "Look how fucking awesome I am!" commandments and replace them with, say, "Thou shalt not own another person as property." Or how about "Thou shalt not lie with a woman without her permission." I'd take either of those.

phludowin““You have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘You shall not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.’ But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘ Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.”Matthew 5:21-22 “For this is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another. Do not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own actions were evil and his brother’s were righteous. Do not be surprised, my brothers and sisters, if the world hates you. We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love each other. Anyone who does not love remains in death. Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life residing in him.”1 John 3:11-15
