Anyone else love that movie?

Oh yeah, I love that it's truer to the story, though I wish they would've corrected the ruby slippers bit, that was purely Judy Garland. But I loved that we got to see the Scarecrow and the Tin Woodsman as they really were per the illustrations.

Hey novastar! Glad to see you made it over here. A film adaptation of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is long overdue.

Yes it certainly is, and I wish they would also step forward and adapt some of the Oz sequels, The Emerald City of Oz would especially be a good one.

This was one of favorite movies when I was younger. It's pretty much a horror movie for kids with scenes like The Wheelers, Mombi's collection of heads and so forth. I think the story goes downhill a bit after they escape Mombi's palace though. Some special effects look really dated now but I appreciate what Disney was doing around that time, challenging their overtly family friendly brand, with movies like The Black Hole, Something Wicked This Ways Comes and this.

Don't forget Flight of the Navigator, granted that wasn't really their movie, but still, they distributed it.

Yes. I've watched Return to Oz more than I've seen The Wizard of Oz. It's scarier, creepier, and the villains more sinister.

Oh, heck yes! I remember my family had some free movie rental coupons the Summer after my 7th grade year. My brother picked Return to Oz as a movie to rent. I was skeptical, because I thought it would be inspired by the MGM film (which pales in comparison to the book). Instead, I got a serious film that felt like Oz, and the main plot points were taken from Ozma of Oz, which is one of my favorite books in the series! Since we only had the movie for one night, I watched it over and over again that day. I've only seen it on TV since then. I'm going to have to buy the movie someday. It's one of the best Oz adaptations ever (right up there with the Cinar anime series)!

I rented TWWOZ and The Marvelous Land of Oz Cinar animes a lot growing up, but only saw the last two a few years ago when someone was nice enough to upload all 52 episodes on YouTube. I was a bit disappointed that they moved further away from the books, but they were still entertaining.

Haha. Yeah, I almost gave up during the Ozma of Oz storyline of the Cinar anime once I got to the endless padding. Three episodes of just the characters running away from the Nome King! But then the series picked itself up again. Not exactly faithful to the books, but it was still pretty good. I also liked how the Nomes cheated during the ornament guessing game, and how Dorothy outsmarted them at the end. And I also liked the foreshadowing done early on by having Mombi and Tip visit the Winkie Country during the Wonderful Wizard of Oz storyline.

Hey novastar! Glad to see you made it over here. A film adaptation of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is long overdue. Oh, but there will be one. There's a low budget company making one right now. I've been following it. Trailer 1: Trailer 2: Sneak Peak Clip of the Throne Room Scene:

Oh, yes. That film and I have a long history together. It used to absolutely horrify me when I was a kid, but I learned to appreciate it as an adult. It's truer to the books and actually has a real sense of danger to it. Loved it.

Have you watched Emerald City? I liked it. It was very different. And fortunately, much better than those previews.

Yes it is NBC. The season finale has already happened. There were only ten episodes in it.

I saw it once on Disney channel Kate at night. I remember thinking it was way different from the the 1930s movie. Two images are still stick in my head are the rollerbladers and Dorothy having to find the green items that were once her friends.

I love almost anything "Oz" related. "Return to Oz" is something special, though.
