Along time ago, when I was a kid... I saw a short documentary... I think it was on "Mister Roger's Neighborhood" or "Reading Rainbow"... On how food advertisements were made... Even if it didn't look awful, you wouldn't want to eat the photographic model anyway... Grapes were dipped in Cooking Oil to give them a high shine... Individual Fries were selected and were tooth-picked to a Styrofoam plate in the bottom of the fry container. Like making a floral arrangement. Seeds were glued to plain hamburger guns, Burger meat was burned to give it that grilled look. Lettuce and Tomatoes were carefully selected and then pinned in place, Ketchup and Mustard were applied like decorating a cake with icing... MILK SHAKES? Just colored Crisco in cup... so it wouldn't melt, while waiting to get photographed. I knew a guy who once worked for Taco Bell, and once got a complaint from a customer that their ordered food, didn't look like the pictures... He told them you wouldn't want to eat those anyway ( see above), and he would be fired since it would take too long to even attempt it, and the food would be cold by then anyway. How odd, that in the photograph in the advertisement... That Big Mac looks worse than the real thing.

I have always liked the vintage Art Nouveau ads for Absinthe, but this one is my favorite... I hope linking will work, apparently Yahoo images won't let you just copy the image anymore, it takes you directly to the website it is on. Fingers crossed... rats, apparently you have to click!

The [mild] cigarette puffer in Chief. From 1952 according to the movie "Hong Kong" that is being promoted in the ad.

The [mild] cigarette puffer in Chief. From 1952 according to the movie "Hong Kong" that is being promoted in the ad. The huge number of Cigarette ads done by celebrities back then is really quite shocking... Even Santa Claus was in on the action: Have a Merry Christmas... By smoking Camels!I know that people didn't know how bad smoking was for them until about the 1960s... But I don't think it was ever considered to be healthy or good for them... However, Doctors did recommend smoking certain brands, so who knows what people actually thought... But, using Santa Claus to sell Tobacco, well, it's just hard to think how anyone could think that was a good idea, since one would think that Santa Claus is usually associated with children...

I can't seem to find an actual vintage ad for these, but yes, they existed: Cigarette Trading Cards! I guess one randomly came in a pack of cigarettes? " Buy a pack, and maybe you'll get a card of actress Ginger Rogers smoking a cigarette." " Keep Smoking Until You Collect All Your Favorite Stars!" How Odd... On So Many Levels.

To be fair, their alibi is so it shows all ingredients on the item... instead of more hidden like when we order it (condiments/toppings/etc). I saw a youtube vid once... apparently Pizza Hut's dough is a frozen disc? lols Anyways, that BigMac looks like a block of sawdust.

RE: truth in advertising ....
My sister was a model and she posed for a print ad for one frozen orange juice .... she was advised not to actually drink what looked like a tasty and appealing beverage ...the enhancing foam was actually whipped up Tide detergent !
