That’s just wild. The Axe of Zaslav has claimed another victim.

That is…odd.
Has a hashtag movement started?

How bad does a movie have to be for WB not to release it? Jesus think of the fucking shit they've given us.

That is…odd. Has a hashtag movement started? a lot of the “Just let Feige reboot the DCEU” nonsense. I genuinely thought this would get at least some positive reaction, fans would trust the new regime doesn’t settle for subpar. But people are really mad

It’s a move that makes no sense and people seemed fairly excited for more Keaton, so that tracks.

Interesting. Can’t say I cared about this one though. Hopefully they undo the plan to bring Keaton into the Snyderverse and instead actually revive the Burtonverse (with Keaton!)

David Zaslav sounds like a real nightmare to work for. Why would you scrap a $70 million that was already filmed? What is wrong with him?

It's hard to hurt a brand as destroyed as DC already is, but maybe he's trying to stop the bleeding. This movie could become infamous. The legend of the unreleased Batgirl will grow and grow the longer it stays unseen.

He must had thought it was jaw-droppingly awful which is unfortunate to hear. Like a Roger Corman FF or something. Or he thought it would interfere with his future plans for the DC films. Or a mixture of both.

From the NY Post link:
The reportedly $70 million movie (the source said the budget was actually more than $100 million), which was doing test screenings for audiences in anticipation of a late 2022 debut, would rank among the most expensive cinematic castoffs ever.
Those tests were said to be so poorly received by moviegoers that the studio decided to cut its losses and run, for the sake of the brand’s future. It’s a DC disaster.
“They think an unspeakable ‘Batgirl’ is going to be irredeemable,” the source said.

I’m going to take a controversial stance and say they (probably) made the right call. Batgirl deserves better than a garbage movie. They should really just introduce a version in the Reevesverse, or even the Burtonverse, and then spin off.

Well, according to Variety, the real reason it was canceled was actually as a tax write-down.

Not that I was much excited for this movie, but it does make me wonder just how bad this movie must have been for them to shelve it. After all, this is the same studio that released WW84 and the first Suicide Squad.
The tax and cost cutting angle makes more sense.

I'm starting to genuinely hate the new management at WB.

That’s kind of lame. Even if it’s bad I’d rather see it than not. And if they were worried about marketing costs I’m pretty sure cancelling it has garnered more free press than any movie in history. Can you imagine how many people want to see it now JUST to see if it’s awful?

Can Discovery just go ahead and sell the DC brand? I don't care if Disney buys it.
