Can Discovery just go ahead and sell the DC brand? I don't care if Disney buys it. I think I actually liked it better when AT&T owned WB. Never thought I’d say that.

David Zaslav sounds like a real nightmare to work for. Why would you scrap a $70 million that was already filmed? What is wrong with him? It's hard to hurt a brand as destroyed as DC already is, but maybe he's trying to stop the bleeding. This movie could become infamous. The legend of the unreleased Batgirl will grow and grow the longer it stays unseen. 1. DC isn’t destroyed. It never will be. The Batman and Joker attests to this. 2. This film won’t be so infamous when you consider that it was never to be released in cinemas in the first place. There’s a limit to how important that they’re considered. There are more infamous unreleased films like Jerry Lewis’ The Day the Clown Cried. But yeah, $70m is a costly mistake.

I’m going to take a controversial stance and say they (probably) made the right call. Batgirl deserves better than a garbage movie. They should really just introduce a version in the Reevesverse, or even the Burtonverse, and then spin off. Well, according to Variety, the real reason it was canceled was actually as a tax write-down. Sounds like it was a little more complicated than that though. Old WB management was apparently obsessed with HBO Max subs. This movie was an ill conceived part of that plan. It’ll no doubt be trendy to paint WB as the bad guys here, but this movie is probably ass on wings. The world is better off.

The curiosity from the public and embarrassment by the studio will give it a certain degree of infamy.

Again, this movie wasn’t canceled because WB was embarrassed by it. I don’t know why people here are so insistent on that idea. The test screening response was mixed at worst.

If they cancel Flash too the silver lining will be that they can actually make a Keaton Batman solo movie in the Burtonverse. Although, Keaton may be hesitant to return if two of his already filmed appearances are cancelled.

Even if they didn’t cancel it because they’re embarrassed by it, the fact that they made a mistake wouldn’t exactly be something they’re proud of. They aren’t in the business of throwing money away. That’s the embarrassing part.

“she just dressed up as Batman for a Halloween party, stopped some terrorists, and tweaked the costume to be a superhero.“
So she put a fake Batman costume on and then was strong enough to defeat terrorists? This kind of stuff just poops all over the Batman mythos. He’s dominant because he’s had a decade of Batman training, not because his suit makes him cool.

WB released a statement about the film's axing.
“The decision to not release Batgirl reflects our leadership’s strategic shift as it relates to the DC universe and HBO Max,” said a Warner Bros. spokesperson in a statement. “Leslie Grace is an incredibly talented actor and this decision is not a reflection of her performance. We are incredibly grateful to the filmmakers of Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt and their respective casts and we hope to collaborate with everyone again in the near future.”

The directors respond: “We are saddened and shocked by the news. We still can’t believe it. As directors, it is critical that our work be shown to audiences, and while the film was far from finished, we wish that fans all over the world would have had the opportunity to see and embrace the final film themselves,” said the duo in an Instagram post which you can read below. deadline.com/2022/08/batgirl-directors-warner-bros-reponse-1235084449/

These new execs are making the previous ones not look so bad, way to piss off half of hollywood I still remember that article from a few months ago where David Zaslav scoffed at the notion that WB should try and maintain a good working relationship with directors like Clint Eastwood. It’s like he doesn’t realize that maintaining connections are everything in Hollywood.

How bad does a movie have to be for WB not to release it? Jesus think of the fucking shit they've given us. IKR? Maybe they don’t want a Resident Evil debacle like Netflix?
